And King Solomon was fond of women, and he had seven hundred chief wives and three hundred concubines, and he took foreign wives, and the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabite women, Ammonite women, Syrian women, and Idumean women, Hittite women, and Amorite women.

from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the sons of Israel, You shall not enter among them, and they shall not enter among you, lest they turn your hearts aside after their idols; to these Solomon clung, to love them

And it came to pass in the time of Solomon’s old age that his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father; and the foreign women turned his heart after their gods.

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the idol of Moab and for their king, the idol of the sons of Ammon

and to Astarte, the abomination of the Sidonians

And thus he did for all his foreign wives, those burning incense and sacrificing to their idols.

And Solomon did the evil thing before the Lord; he did not walk after the Lord as David his father.

And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because he had turned his heart away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.

and when he had commanded him concerning this matter, not at all to go after other gods and to keep and to do what the Lord God commanded him

And the Lord said to Solomon, Because these things have happened with you and you did not keep my commandments and my ordinances which I commanded you, by tearing I will tear your kingdom from your hand, and I will give it to your servant.

Nevertheless in your days I will not do it, because of David your father; out of the hand of your son I will take it.

Only I will not take away the whole kingdom; I will give one scepter to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I chose

And the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite, and Rezon son of Eliadae, who was in Reemath, of Hadadezer king of Zobah, his lord; and men gathered against him, and he was commander of a band, and he seized Damascus; and they were adversaries to Israel all the days of Solomon, and Hadad the Edomite was of the seed of the kingdom in Idumea

And it came to pass, when David destroyed Edom, when Joab, the commander of the army, went to bury the wounded, that they cut down every male in Idumea.

For Joab and all Israel had stayed there six months in Edom, until he had exterminated every male from Edom.

And Adder fled, he and all the men, Idumaeans of the servants of his father, with him, and they entered into Egypt; and Adder was a little child.

And men rise up from the city of Midian and come to Paran and take men with them and come to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and Hadad went in to Pharaoh, and he gave him a house and ordered bread for him

And Adder found favor exceedingly before Pharaoh, and he gave him as wife the sister of his wife, the sister of Thekeminas the elder.

And the sister of Thekeminas bore him, to Hadad, Ganebath her son; and Thekemina brought him up among the sons of Pharaoh, and Ganebath was among the sons of Pharaoh.

And Hadad heard in Egypt that David had lain down with his fathers and that Joab the commander of the army had died, and Hadad said to Pharaoh, Send me away, and I will return to my land.

And Pharaoh said to Adad, Why are you lacking with me? And behold, you are seeking to go away to your land. And Adad said to him, Surely in sending you will send me away. And Adad returned to his land.

This was the evil which Hadad did, and he became heavy in spirit against Israel and reigned in the land of Edom.

And Jeroboam son of Nebat, the Ephrathite, from Zareda, son of a widow woman, servant of Solomon

And this was the matter with which he lifted up hands against King Solomon: he built the fortress, he enclosed the wall of the city of David his father.

And the man Jeroboam was mighty in strength, and Solomon saw the young man that he was a man of work, and he appointed him over the levies of the house of Joseph.

And it happened at that time that Jeroboam went out from Jerusalem, and Ahijah the Shilonite, the prophet, found him on the way, and Ahijah had stopped him from the way, and Ahijah was clothed with a new garment, and both were in the field.

And Ahijah took hold of his new garment that was on him and tore it into twelve pieces

And he said to Jeroboam, Take for yourself ten pieces, because thus says the Lord the God of Israel: behold, I am tearing the kingdom from the hand of Solomon and will give you ten tribes.

and two scepters shall be for him, for my servant David and for Jerusalem, the city which I chose in it from all the tribes of Israel

because he has forsaken me and has done for Astarte the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh and for the idols of Moab and for their king, the abomination of the sons of Ammon, and has not walked in my ways, to do what is right before me, as David his father

And I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, because in opposing I will oppose him all the days of his life, for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose him.

And I will take the kingdom out of the hand of his son, and I will give you the ten scepters.

But to his son I will give the two scepters, so that there may be a standing for my servant David all the days before me in Jerusalem, the city which I chose for myself to put my name there

And I will take you, and you shall reign over all that your soul desires, and you shall be king over Israel.

And it shall be, if you keep all that I command you and walk in my ways and do what is right before me, to keep my commandments and my ordinances, as David my servant did, then I will be with you and will build you a sure house, as I built for David.

And Solomon sought to put Jeroboam to death, and Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and he was in Egypt until Solomon died

And the rest of the words of Solomon and all that he did and all his prudence, behold, are not these written in the book of the words of Solomon?

And the days that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem were forty years.

And Solomon slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David his father; and it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it, and he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from before Solomon, and he was dwelling in Egypt, he returned and came to his city, to the land of Zareda, in the mountain of Ephraim. And King Solomon slept with his fathers, and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.
