And Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo prophesied a prophecy to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel over them

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Josedek arose and began to build the house of God, the one in Jerusalem, and with them the prophets of God helping them

At that time Thathanai, governor beyond the river, and Satharbouzana and their fellow servants came upon them and said to them, Who gave you an order to build this house and to finish this supply?

Then these said to them, What are the names of the men who are building this city?

And the eyes of God were upon the captivity of Judah, and they did not cause them to cease until a decree was brought to Darius, and then there was sent to the tax-collector concerning this

Copy of the letter which Taththana the governor beyond the river, and Shatharbouzana and their fellow servants, the Apharsachaeans who are beyond the river, sent to Darius the king

They sent a letter to him, and thus it is written in it: To Darius the king, all peace.

Let it be known to the king that we went into the land of Judea, to the house of the great God, and it is being built with chosen stones, and timber is being laid in the walls, and that work is being carried out skillfully and is prospering in their hands.

Then we asked those elders, and thus we said to them, Who put into your mind to build this house and to complete this supply?

and we asked them their names, to make them known to you, so as to write to you the names of the men, the rulers of them

And they answered us with such a word, saying, We are servants of the God of heaven and of the earth, and we are building the house which had been built before this many years ago, and a great king of Israel built it and completed it.

from them. But from the time when our fathers provoked the God of heaven, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, and he destroyed this house and removed the people into Babylon.

But in the first year of Cyrus the king, Cyrus the king made a decision that this house of God be built.

Then that Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God that is in Jerusalem, and from then until now it has been being built and has not been completed

And now, if it is good to the king, let there be a search in the house of the treasury of the king of Babylon, so that you may know that a decree was set down by King Cyrus to build that house of God, that one in Jerusalem; and when the king has known concerning this, let him send to us.
