Whom the tyrant, having taken pity, although he had been terribly reviled by his brothers, seeing the bonds already lying around him, summoned him nearer and tried to comfort him, saying

And while urging these things, he summoned the mother of the child, so that, having pitied her as deprived of so many sons, he might urge the one remaining to the saving obedience to be persuaded by her.

You impious man, says he, and most ungodly of all wicked men, tyrant, you were not ashamed, having received from God the good things and the kingdom, to kill his servants and to torture the athletes of piety.
