2
His heart was exalted, and he said to bring the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar his father had brought from Jerusalem, and to pour wine in them for his companions.
5
At that very hour fingers like the fingers of a human hand came out and wrote on the wall of his house, on the plaster, opposite the light, before King Baltasar; and he saw a hand writing.
6
His appearance was changed, and fears and suspicions were hastening him; so the king hastened and rose up, and saw that writing, and his companions around him were boasting.
7
The king cried out with a loud voice to summon the enchanters and sorcerers and Chaldeans and Gazarenes, to declare the interpretation of the writing. And they came in to examine and see the writing, but they were unable to interpret the writing for the king. Then the king issued an order, saying, Any man who should indicate the interpretation of the writing shall be clothed in purple, and a golden necklace shall be placed upon him, and authority over a third part of the kingdom shall be given to him.
16
Daniel, are you able to show me the interpretation of the writing? I will clothe you in purple, put a golden necklace around you, and you shall have authority over the third part of my kingdom.
17
Daniel stood opposite the writing and read it, and thus he answered the king: This is the writing: it has been numbered, reckoned, lifted up, and the hand that wrote stood; and this is their interpretation.
23
You made a banquet for your friends and drank wine, and the vessels of the house of the living God were brought to you, and you drank from them, you and your nobles, and you praised all the handmade idols of men, but you did not bless the living God; and your breath is in his hand, and he himself gave you your kingdom, and you did not bless him nor praise him.
26-28
The interpretation of the writing: your time has been numbered; the kingdom of your rule is ending; your kingdom has been cut short and brought to an end; your kingdom is given to the Medes and the Persians.
