In the first year of Belshazzar, king of the land of Babylon, Daniel saw a vision beside his head upon his bed; then Daniel wrote down the vision that he saw in chapters of words.
First, I was watching something like a lioness having wings like an eagle, until its wings were plucked out; and it was lifted from the earth, and stood upon human feet, and a human heart was given to it.
Behold, after it another beast, having the likeness of a bear; and it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth; and thus it said: Arise, devour many flesh portions.
After these things I was looking, and behold, another beast, like a leopard, and four wings were spreading over it, and four heads were given to the beast, and authority was given to it.
But these things I was seeing in a vision of the night: a fourth beast, dreadful, and its fear surpassing in strength, having great iron teeth; it was eating and crushing, trampling underfoot around, acting differently from all the beasts before it; and it had ten horns.
Many plans were in its horns, and behold, another single horn sprouted in the midst of them, a small one among its horns, and three of the first horns were uprooted by it; and behold, eyes like human eyes were in this horn, and a mouth speaking great things, and it waged war against the holy ones.
Until thrones were set in place and the Ancient of Days sat; his garment was like snow, and the hair of his head like clean white wool; his throne was like a flame of fire.
A river of fire was issuing forth before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; and the court sat, and books were opened.
Then I saw the sound of the great words that the horn was speaking, and the beast was beaten to death, and its body was destroyed and given to the burning of fire.
In a vision of the night, and behold, one like a son of man was coming upon the clouds of heaven, and he was present as the Ancient of Days, and those standing by were present with him.
Authority was given to him, and all the nations of the earth according to their kinds, and every glory serving him; and his authority is an eternal authority, which shall certainly not be taken away, and his kingdom, which shall certainly not be destroyed.
I approached one of those standing and sought from him the certainty concerning all these things; and he answered and declared to me the interpretation of the words.
I wanted to ascertain precisely concerning the fourth beast, which was destroying everything, exceedingly fearsome; and behold, its teeth were of iron and its claws of bronze, devouring all around and trampling with its feet.
concerning its ten horns that were on its head, and the one other that sprouted up and three fell because of it; and that horn had eyes and a mouth speaking great things, and its appearance surpassed the others
Until the Ancient of Days came, and he gave judgment to the holy ones of the Most High, and the appointed time was given, and the holy ones took possession of the kingdom.
It was said to me concerning the fourth beast: The fourth kingdom shall be upon the earth, which shall differ from all the kingdoms and shall throw it into confusion and crush it.
And the ten horns of the kingdom are ten kings who shall arise, and another king shall arise after them, and he himself shall surpass the former ones in evils, and he shall humble three kings.
He will speak words against the Most High, and he will wear down the holy ones of the Most High, and he will undertake to change times and law, and everything will be handed over into his hands for a time and times and half a time.
He gave the kingdom and the authority and their greatness and the rule of all the kingdoms under heaven to the holy people of the Most High, to reign with an everlasting kingdom, and all the authorities shall be subject to him and shall obey him.
