But the Lord removed sleep from the king that night, and he said to his recorder to bring in memoranda letters of the days to read them to him

And he found the writings that had been written concerning Mordecai, how he had reported to the king concerning the two eunuchs of the king, while guarding them and seeking to lay hands on Artaxerxes

And the king said, What honor or favor have we done for Mordecai? And the king’s attendants said, You have done nothing for him.

And while the king was inquiring about Mordecai’s favor, behold, Haman was in the courtyard. And the king said, Who is in the courtyard? And Haman came in to speak to the king to hang Mordecai on the wood which he had prepared.

And the servants of the king said, Behold, Haman is standing in the court. And the king said, Call him.

And the king said to Haman, What shall I do for the man whom I want to glorify? And Haman said in himself, Whom does the king want to glorify if not me?

And he said to the king, A man whom the king wishes to glorify

Let them bring the king’s servants a linen robe which the king wears, and a horse on which the king rides

and let it be given to one of the king’s distinguished friends, and let him clothe the man whom the king loves and let him mount him on the horse and let him proclaim through the broad street of the city, saying, Thus it shall be for every man whom the king honors

And the king said to Haman, So you have spoken, so do to Mordecai the Jew, the one serving in the court, and let not a word of what you have spoken fall by the side of you.

And Haman took the robe and the horse, and he clothed Mordecai and mounted him on the horse and went through the wide street of the city and proclaimed, saying, Thus shall it be for every man whom the king wishes to honor.

Then Mordecai returned to the court, but Haman returned to his own things, grieving, with his head covered.

And Haman recounted the things that had happened to him to Zosara his wife and to his friends, and his friends and his wife said to him, If Mordecai, being from the race of Jews, has begun to be humbled before him, falling you shall surely not be able to take vengeance on him, because the living God is with him.

While they were still speaking, the eunuchs arrive, hastening Haman to the drinking feast that Esther had prepared
