And the word of the Lord came to me, saying

Son of man, speak to the sons of your people, and you shall say to them: A land upon which I am bringing a sword, and the people of the land take one man from among them and set him for themselves as a watchman.

and sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and gives a signal to the people

and if the one who hears the sound of the trumpet should hear and not guard himself, and the sword come upon him and take him, his blood shall be upon his head

because, having heard the sound of the trumpet, he did not take heed; his blood shall be upon him. And this one, because he took heed, has delivered his life.

And if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not sound the trumpet, and the people do not keep watch, and the sword comes and takes a life from among them, that one was taken away because of its own lawlessness, and I will require the blood from the hand of the watchman

And you, son of man, I have given you as a watchman to the house of Israel, and you shall hear a word from my mouth.

When I say to the sinner, By death you shall die, and you do not speak to guard the wicked man from his way, that lawless man himself shall die in his lawlessness, but his blood I will require from your hand.

But if you foretell to the ungodly his way, for him to turn from it, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his ungodliness, and you have delivered your soul.

And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel: Thus you have spoken, saying, Our errors and our lawless deeds are upon us, and in them we are wasting away; and how shall we live?

Say to them, As I live, says the Lord, I do not will the death of the ungodly, but rather that the ungodly should turn back from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your way, and why do you die, O house of Israel?

Say to the sons of your people: The righteousness of the righteous shall by no means deliver him in whatever day he should go astray, and the lawlessness of the ungodly shall by no means harm him in whatever day he turns back from his lawlessness, and a righteous man shall by no means be able to be saved.

When I say to the righteous, This one has trusted in his righteousness, and he shall do lawlessness, all his righteousnesses shall surely not be remembered; in his unrighteousness which he has done, in it he shall die.

And when I say to the ungodly, By death you shall die, and he turns back from his sin and does judgment and righteousness,

and he shall return a pledge and shall repay what was seized by force, he shall walk in the statutes of life so as not to do unrighteousness; by life he shall live, and he shall not die

None of his sins that he sinned shall not be remembered, because he did judgment and righteousness in them; he shall live.

And the sons of your people will say, The way of the Lord is not straight, and this way of theirs is not straight.

When the righteous turns away from his righteousness and does lawlessness, and he shall die in them

And when the sinner turns away from his lawlessness and does judgment and righteousness in them, he himself shall live.

And this is what you said: The way of the Lord is not straight; each one in his ways I will judge you, house of Israel.

And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the fifth of the month of our captivity, the escaped one came to me from Jerusalem, saying, The city has been captured.

And the hand of the Lord came upon me in the evening, before he came; and he opened my mouth until he came to me in the morning, and when my mouth was opened, it was no longer restrained.

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying

Son of man, those who dwell in the desolated places on the land of Israel say, Abraham was one, and he possessed the land; and we are more, the land has been given to us for possession.

Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord Lord

As I live, surely those in the desolated places shall fall by the sword, and those on the face of the field shall be given to the wild animals of the field as food, and I will kill with death those in the fortified places and those in the caves.

And I will give the land a desolation, and the pride of its strength shall perish, and the mountains of Israel shall be made desolate because there is no one passing through.

And they shall know that I am the Lord, and I will make their land desolate, and it shall be made desolate because of all their abominations which they did.

And you, son of man, the sons of your people who speak about you beside the walls and in the gates of the houses, and they speak, each man to his brother, saying, Let us come together and let us hear the things going out from the Lord.

They come to you as a people comes together, and they sit before you, and they hear your words, and they will by no means do them, because falsehood is in their mouth, and their heart goes after their defilements

And you shall be to them as the sound of a pleasantly sounding, well-tuned harp, and they will hear your words, but they will not by any means do them.

And whenever it comes, they will say, Behold, it has come, and they will know that a prophet was among them.
