Now the serpent was most prudent of all the wild animals that were upon the earth that the Lord God made, and the serpent said to the woman, Why is it that God said, You shall not eat from every tree in the paradise?

And the woman said to the serpent, From the fruit of the tree of the garden we shall eat.

But from the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden God said, You shall not eat from it, and you shall surely not touch it, lest you die.

And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die.

For God knew that in whatever day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil

And the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes to see and that it was desirable to understand, and she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave to her husband with her, and they ate

And the eyes of the two were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves and made for themselves loincloths.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the paradise in the evening, and both Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God in the middle of the tree of the paradise

And the Lord God called Adam and said to him, Adam, where are you?

And he said to him, I heard your voice walking in the garden, and I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid myself.

And he said to him, Who told you that you are naked? Unless from the tree from which I commanded you, of this one only, not to eat from it, did you eat?

And Adam said, The woman whom you gave with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.

And the Lord God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate.

And the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, cursed are you from all the cattle and from all the wild animals of the earth; on your chest and your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.

And I will put enmity between you and between the woman and between your seed and between her seed; he will watch your head, and you will watch his heel

And to the woman he said, increasing I will increase your pains and your groaning; in pains you shall bear children, and toward your husband will be your turning, and he himself will rule over you

And to Adam he said, Because you listened to the voice of your wife and ate from the tree which I commanded you, of this one alone not to eat from it, cursed is the ground in your works; in pains you shall eat of it all the days of your life.

Thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the grass of the field.

By the sweat of your face you shall eat your bread until your turning back into the ground from which you were taken, because you are dust and to dust you shall go.

And Adam called the name of his wife Life, because she was the mother of all the living.

And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife skin tunics, and clothed them.

And God said, Behold, Adam has become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he stretch out his hand and take from the tree of life and eat and live forever,

And the Lord God sent him out from the garden of delight to work the ground from which he had been taken

And he drove out Adam and caused him to dwell opposite the paradise of delight, and he stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword that turned to guard the way of the tree of life.
