Thus says the Lord: Go and get for yourself a linen girdle, and put it around your loins, and it shall not pass through water.

And I acquired the belt according to the word of the Lord, and I put it around my loins.

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying

Take the sash that is around your waist, and arise and go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in the cleft of the rock.

And I went and hid it in the Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me.

And it came to pass after many days that the Lord said to me, Rise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the loincloth that I commanded you to hide there.

And I went to the Euphrates river and dug, and I took the loincloth from the place where I had dug it there, and behold, it was ruined, which shall not at all be used for anything

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying

Thus says the Lord: So I will destroy the pride of Judah and the pride of Jerusalem

this great pride, those who did not want to obey my words and who went after foreign gods to serve them and to worship them, and they shall be like this girdle, which shall be used for nothing

For just as the waistband clings around the loins of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to myself, to become for me a people for renown and for praise and for glory, but they did not listen to me.

And you shall say to this people, Every skin-bottle shall be filled with wine. And it shall be, if they say to you, Shall we not know? We shall not know that every skin-bottle shall be filled with wine.

And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am filling the inhabitants of this land and their kings, the ones sitting, the sons of David on his throne, and the priests and the prophets and Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

And I will scatter them, man and his brother and their fathers and their sons, in the same; I will not long for them, says the Lord, and I will not spare, and I will not pity, because of their destruction

Hear and give ear, and do not be haughty, for the Lord has spoken.

Give glory to the Lord your God before it grows dark and before your feet stumble on dark mountains, and you shall wait for light, and there death’s shadow, and they shall be set into darkness

But if you do not listen, your soul will weep in secret because of pride, and your eyes will bring down tears, because the flock of the Lord has been broken.

Say to the king and to those ruling, Be humbled and sit down, for the crown of your glory has been taken down from your head

The cities of the south were shut up, and there was no one opening; Judah was carried away, he has made a complete deportation.

Lift up your eyes, Jerusalem, and see those coming from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, the sheep of your glory?

What will you say when they visit you, and you yourself taught them against yourself as lessons for a beginning? Will not pangs seize you, like a woman giving birth?

And if you say in your heart, Why have these things happened to me? Because of the multitude of your injustice your backs were uncovered, your heels to be exposed.

Can an Ethiopian change his skin, and a leopard its variegations? Then you also will be able to do good, having learned evil.

And I scattered them like stubble being carried by the wind into a desert

This is your lot and portion for disobeying me, says the Lord, because you forgot me and trusted in lies

And I will uncover your backside upon your face, and your disgrace will be seen.

And your adultery and your neighing and the estrangement of your whoredom on the hills and in the fields, I have seen your abominations. Woe to you, Jerusalem, because you were not cleansed after me; until when still?
