Who is this that hides counsel from me, and holds words in his heart, yet thinks to hide me?
Gird up your loins like a man; and I will ask you, and you answer me.
Where were you when I was founding the earth? Tell me, if you understand understanding.
Who set its measures, if you know, or who brought a measuring line upon it?
Upon what are its bases fixed, and who is he who laid its cornerstone upon it?
when the stars were made all my angels praised me with a loud voice
And I shut the sea with doors when it rushed out from the womb, coming forth from its mother’s belly
I made a cloud its garment, and I swaddled it with mist.
and I set for it boundaries, placing bars and gates
And I said to it, Until this you shall come, and you shall not go beyond, but within yourself your waves shall be shattered.
Have you commanded the morning light, and did the morning star see his own order?
to take hold of the wings of the earth, to shake the wicked out of it
Or did you, taking earth, fashion a living thing as clay and make him speakable and set him upon the earth?
And from the ungodly you took away the light, and the arm of the proud you crushed.
Or have you come to the springs of the sea, and have you walked in the tracks of the abyss?
Have the gates of death been opened to you, and did the gatekeepers of Hades, seeing you, fear?
Have you understood the breadth of what is under heaven? Declare to me then how great it is.
And in what land does the light dwell, and what is the place of darkness?
if you should lead me to their boundaries, or if indeed you know their paths?
I know then that you were born, and the number of your years is much.
Have you entered into the storehouses of snow, and have you seen the storehouses of hail?
But it is reserved for you for the time of enemies, for the day of war and battle.
From where, then, does frost come forth, or the south wind scatter itself under heaven?
And who has prepared a channel for a heavy rain, and a way for the tumultuous storms?
to cause it to rain on a land where there is no man, a desert where there is no human in it
to satisfy a desolate and uninhabited place, and to cause the sprouting forth of grass?
Who is the father of the rain, and who is it that has begotten the drops of dew?
Out of whose womb comes the ice, and who has begotten the frost in heaven?
which goes down like flowing water, but who has hardened the face of the deep?
Can you bind the chain of the Pleiades, or loosen the belt of Orion?
Can you bring forth the Mazzuroth in its season, and Hesperus over its hair can you lead them?
Do you know the ordinances of heaven, or the things under heaven being done with one accord?
Can you call the cloud with a voice, and will the torrent of water obey you?
Will you send forth lightnings, and they shall go? And they shall say to you, What is it?
But who has given wisdom to women for weaving, or knowledge of embroidery?
And who is he that counts the clouds in wisdom, and bent down heaven to the earth?
and it is poured out like earth; I have glued it together like a stone, a block
Will you hunt prey for lions, and fill the souls of dragons?
For they fear in their lairs, and they sit lying in wait in the thickets.
And who has prepared food for a raven, for his nestlings cry out to the Lord, wandering, seeking food?
