And it came to pass, when the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, and the kings of Phoenicia, those by the sea, heard that the Lord God had dried up the Jordan River from before the sons of Israel when they were crossing over, their minds melted, and they were terrified, and there was no understanding in them at all because of the presence of the sons of Israel.

For forty-two years Israel had wandered in the wilderness, in the Madbaritic wilderness; therefore most of their fighting men who had come out of the land of Egypt were uncircumcised, those who had disobeyed the commands of God, to whom he also determined not to let them see the land which the Lord swore to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey

And the manna ceased after they had eaten of the grain of the land, and there was no longer manna for the sons of Israel, but they enjoyed the produce of the land of the Phoenicians in that year

And it happened, as Joshua was in Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and saw a man standing opposite him, and his drawn sword in his hand; and Joshua approached and said to him, Are you of ours or of our adversaries?
