1καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν τελευτὴν Ἰησοῦ καὶ ἐπηρώτων οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ διὰ τοῦ κυρίου λέγοντες τίς ἀναβήσεται ἡμῖν πρὸς τοὺς Χαναναίους ἀφηγούμενος τοῦ πολεμῆσαι πρὸς αὐτούς
And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, and the sons of Israel were asking of the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us to the Canaanites, leading the way to make war against them?
2καὶ εἶπεν κύριος Ιουδας ἀναβήσεται ἰδοὺ δέδωκα τὴν γῆν ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ
And the Lord said, Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand.
3καὶ εἶπεν Ιουδας τῷ Συμεων ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ ἀνάβηθι μετ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ μου καὶ παραταξώμεθα πρὸς τοὺς Χαναναίους καὶ πορεύσομαι κἀγὼ μετὰ σοῦ ἐν τῷ κλήρῳ σου καὶ ἐπορεύθη μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ Συμεων
And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Go up with me into my allotment, and let us draw up against the Canaanites, and I also will go with you into your allotment. And Simeon went with him.
4καὶ ἀνέβη Ιουδας καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Φερεζαῖον εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν καὶ ἔκοψαν αὐτοὺς ἐν Βεζεκ εἰς δέκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν
And Judah went up, and the Lord gave the Canaanite and the Perizzite into their hands, and they struck them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
5καὶ κατέλαβον τὸν Αδωνιβεζεκ ἐν τῇ Βεζεκ καὶ παρετάξαντο πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἔκοψαν τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Φερεζαῖον
And they overtook Adonibezek in Bezek and drew up in battle against him and struck the Canaanite and the Perizzite
6καὶ ἔφυγεν Αδωνιβεζεκ καὶ κατέδραμον ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ κατελάβοσαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέκοψαν τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἄκρα τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ
And Adoni-bezek fled, and they ran after him and seized him and cut off the ends of his hands and the ends of his feet
7καὶ εἶπεν Αδωνιβεζεκ ἑβδομήκοντα βασιλεῖς τὰ ἄκρα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ ἄκρα τῶν ποδῶν αὐτῶν ἀποκεκομμένοι ἦσαν συλλέγοντες τὰ ὑποκάτω τῆς τραπέζης μου καθὼς οὖν ἐποίησα οὕτως ἀνταπέδωκέν μοι ὁ θεός καὶ ἄγουσιν αὐτὸν εἰς Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐκεῖ
And Adonibezek said, Seventy kings, the tips of their hands and the tips of their feet having been cut off, were gathering what was under my table; as therefore I did, so God has repaid me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
8καὶ ἐπολέμουν οἱ υἱοὶ Ιουδα τὴν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ κατελάβοντο αὐτὴν καὶ ἐπάταξαν αὐτὴν ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας καὶ τὴν πόλιν ἐνέπρησαν ἐν πυρί
And the sons of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it and struck it with the mouth of the sword, and they burned the city with fire.
9καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα κατέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ιουδα τοῦ πολεμῆσαι πρὸς τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα τὴν ὀρεινὴν καὶ τὸν νότον καὶ τὴν πεδινήν
And after these things the sons of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanite, the one inhabiting the hill country and the south and the plain
10καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ιουδας πρὸς τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐν Χεβρων καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Χεβρων ἐξ ἐναντίας καὶ τὸ ὄνομα ἦν Χεβρων τὸ πρότερον Καριαθαρβοξεφερ καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὸν Σεσσι καὶ Αχινααν καὶ Θολμιν γεννήματα τοῦ Ενακ
And Judah went against the Canaanite who was dwelling in Hebron, and Hebron went out from opposite, and the name was Hebron formerly Kiriatharbozepher, and they struck Sheshi and Ahiman and Talmi, offspring of Enak.
11καὶ ἀνέβησαν ἐκεῖθεν πρὸς τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Δαβιρ τὸ δὲ ὄνομα τῆς Δαβιρ ἦν ἔμπροσθεν Καριαθσωφαρ πόλις γραμμάτων
And they went up from there against those dwelling in Debir, and the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher, city of letters.
12καὶ εἶπεν Χαλεβ ὃς ἐὰν πατάξῃ τὴν πόλιν τῶν γραμμάτων καὶ προκαταλάβηται αὐτήν δώσω αὐτῷ τὴν Ασχα θυγατέρα μου εἰς γυναῖκα
And Caleb said, Whoever strikes the city of letters and takes it beforehand, I will give to him Achsa my daughter as a wife.
13καὶ προκατελάβετο αὐτὴν Γοθονιηλ υἱὸς Κενεζ ἀδελφοῦ Χαλεβ ὁ νεώτερος καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ Χαλεβ τὴν Ασχα θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ εἰς γυναῖκα
And Othniel son of Kenaz, the younger brother of Caleb, captured it, and Caleb gave him Achsah his daughter as a wife.
14καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ εἰσόδῳ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπέσεισεν αὐτὴν Γοθονιηλ τοῦ αἰτῆσαι παρὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς ἀγρόν καὶ ἐγόγγυζεν καὶ ἔκραξεν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑποζυγίου εἰς γῆν νότου ἐκδέδοσαί με καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Χαλεβ τί ἐστίν σοι
And it happened in her coming in, and Othniel persuaded her to ask from her father a field, and she sighed and cried from the saddle to the ground of the south: You have given me over, and Caleb said to her, What is it to you?
15καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ασχα δὸς δή μοι εὐλογίαν ὅτι εἰς γῆν νότου ἐκδέδοσαί με καὶ δώσεις μοι λύτρωσιν ὕδατος καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῇ Χαλεβ κατὰ τὴν καρδίαν αὐτῆς λύτρωσιν μετεώρων καὶ λύτρωσιν ταπεινῶν
And Achsa said to him, Give me, please, a blessing, because you have given me away into a land of the south, and you shall give me a release of water. And Caleb gave her, according to her heart, a release of the upper springs and a release of the lower springs.
16καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ιοθορ τοῦ Κιναιου τοῦ γαμβροῦ Μωυσέως ἀνέβησαν ἐκ πόλεως τῶν φοινίκων μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν Ιουδα εἰς τὴν ἔρημον τὴν οὖσαν ἐν τῷ νότῳ Ιουδα ἥ ἐστιν ἐπὶ καταβάσεως Αραδ καὶ κατῴκησαν μετὰ τοῦ λαοῦ
And the sons of Jothor the Kenite, the father-in-law of Moses, went up out of the city of the palm trees with the sons of Judah into the wilderness that was in the south of Judah, which is by the descent of Arad, and they dwelt with the people
17καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ιουδας μετὰ Συμεων τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔκοψεν τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα Σεφεκ καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσαν αὐτούς καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τῆς πόλεως Ἀνάθεμα
And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and he struck down the Canaanite who was dwelling in Sepec, and they utterly destroyed them, and he called the name of the city Anathema.
18καὶ οὐκ ἐκληρονόμησεν Ιουδας τὴν Γάζαν οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν Ἀσκαλῶνα οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν Ακκαρων οὐδὲ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν Ἄζωτον οὐδὲ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς
And Judah did not inherit Gaza, nor its borders, nor Ashkelon, nor its borders, nor Ekron, nor its borders, nor Ashdod, nor its surrounding fields.
19καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ιουδα καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν τὸ ὄρος ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνάσθησαν ἐξολεθρεῦσαι τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν κοιλάδα ὅτι Ρηχαβ διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς
And the Lord was with Judah, and he inherited the mountain, because they were not able to utterly destroy those inhabiting the valley, because Rechab had given them command.
20καὶ ἔδωκαν τῷ Χαλεβ τὴν Χεβρων καθὼς ἐλάλησεν Μωυσῆς καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν ἐκεῖθεν τὰς τρεῖς πόλεις τῶν υἱῶν Ενακ
And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken, and he inherited from there the three cities of the sons of Anak.
21καὶ τὸν Ιεβουσαῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐν Ιερουσαλημ οὐκ ἐκληρονόμησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμιν καὶ κατῴκησεν ὁ Ιεβουσαῖος μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν Βενιαμιν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης
And the Jebusite who was dwelling in Jerusalem the sons of Benjamin did not dispossess, and the Jebusite dwelt with the sons of Benjamin in Jerusalem until this day
22καὶ ἀνέβησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ιωσηφ καί γε αὐτοὶ εἰς Βαιθηλ καὶ κύριος ἦν μετ᾿ αὐτῶν
And the sons of Joseph also went up to Beth-el, and the Lord was with them.
23καὶ παρενέβαλον καὶ κατεσκέψαντο Βαιθηλ τὸ δὲ ὄνομα τῆς πόλεως αὐτῶν ἦν ἔμπροσθεν Λουζα
And they encamped and surveyed Bethel, and the name of their city before was Luz.
24καὶ εἶδον οἱ φυλάσσοντες καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἐξεπορεύετο ἐκ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἔλαβον αὐτὸν καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ δεῖξον ἡμῖν τῆς πόλεως τὴν εἴσοδον καὶ ποιήσομεν μετὰ σοῦ ἔλεος
And the watchers saw, and behold, a man was coming out from the city, and they took him and said to him, Show us the entrance of the city, and we will do mercy with you.
25καὶ ἔδειξεν αὐτοῖς τὴν εἴσοδον τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὴν πόλιν ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας τὸν δὲ ἄνδρα καὶ τὴν συγγένειαν αὐτοῦ ἐξαπέστειλαν
And he showed them the entrance of the city, and they struck the city with the mouth of the sword, but the man and his kin they sent away
26καὶ ἐπορεύθη ὁ ἀνὴρ εἰς γῆν Χεττιιν καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν ἐκεῖ πόλιν καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς Λουζα τοῦτο τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης
And the man went into the land of the Hittites and built a city there and called its name Luz; this is its name until this day.
27καὶ οὐκ ἐξῆρεν Μανασση τὴν Βαιθσαν ἥ ἐστιν Σκυθῶν πόλις οὐδὲ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὰ περίοικα αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὴν Θανακ οὐδὲ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Δωρ οὐδὲ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὸν κατοικοῦντα Βαλακ οὐδὲ τὰ περίοικα αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Μαγεδω οὐδὲ τὰ περίοικα αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Ιεβλααμ οὐδὲ τὰ περίοικα αὐτῆς οὐδὲ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῆς καὶ ἤρξατο ὁ Χαναναῖος κατοικεῖν ἐν τῇ γῇ ταύτῃ
And Manasseh did not drive out Bethshan, which is a city of Scythians, nor its daughters, nor its surrounding villages, nor Taanach, nor its daughters, nor the inhabitants of Dor, nor its daughters, nor the inhabitant of Balak, nor its surrounding villages, nor its daughters, nor the inhabitants of Magedo, nor its surrounding villages, nor its daughters, nor the inhabitants of Jeblaam, nor its surrounding villages, nor its daughters; and the Canaanite began to dwell in this land.
28καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐνίσχυσεν Ισραηλ καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸν Χαναναῖον εἰς φόρον καὶ ἐξαίρων οὐκ ἐξῆρεν αὐτόν
And it happened when Israel grew strong, and made the Canaanite into tribute, but by driving out he did not drive him out.
29καὶ Εφραιμ οὐκ ἐξῆρεν τὸν Χαναναῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐν Γαζερ καὶ κατῴκησεν ὁ Χαναναῖος ἐν μέσῳ αὐτοῦ ἐν Γαζερ καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς φόρον
And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanite who was dwelling in Gezer, and the Canaanite dwelt in its midst in Gezer, and he became subject to tribute
30καὶ Ζαβουλων οὐκ ἐξῆρεν τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Κεδρων οὐδὲ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Δωμανα καὶ κατῴκησεν ὁ Χαναναῖος ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ εἰς φόρον
And Zebulun did not drive out those inhabiting Kedron, nor those inhabiting Domana; and the Canaanite dwelt in their midst, and he became to him for tribute.
31καὶ Ασηρ οὐκ ἐξῆρεν τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Ακχω καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ εἰς φόρον καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Δωρ καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Σιδῶνα καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Ααλαφ καὶ τὸν Ασχαζι καὶ τὸν Χελβα καὶ τὸν Ναϊ καὶ τὸν Ερεω
And Asher did not drive out those inhabiting Acco, and it became to him for tribute, and those inhabiting Dor, and those inhabiting Sidon, and those inhabiting Ahlab, and Achzib, and Helbah, and Nai, and Ereo.
32καὶ κατῴκησεν ὁ Ασηρ ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ Χαναναίου τοῦ κατοικοῦντος τὴν γῆν ὅτι οὐκ ἠδυνήθη ἐξᾶραι αὐτόν
And Asher dwelt in the midst of the Canaanite who was dwelling the land, because he was not able to drive him out.
33καὶ Νεφθαλι οὐκ ἐξῆρεν τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Βαιθσαμυς καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Βαιθαναθ καὶ κατῴκησεν Νεφθαλι ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ Χαναναίου τοῦ κατοικοῦντος τὴν γῆν οἱ δὲ κατοικοῦντες Βαιθσαμυς καὶ τὴν Βαιθενεθ ἐγένοντο αὐτοῖς εἰς φόρον
And Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and the inhabitants of Beth-anath, and Naphtali dwelt in the midst of the Canaanite who was inhabiting the land; but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath became to them for tribute.
34καὶ ἐξέθλιψεν ὁ Αμορραῖος τοὺς υἱοὺς Δαν εἰς τὸ ὄρος ὅτι οὐκ ἀφῆκαν αὐτὸν καταβῆναι εἰς τὴν κοιλάδα
And the Amorite pressed the sons of Dan into the mountain, because they did not let him come down into the valley.
35καὶ ἤρξατο ὁ Αμορραῖος κατοικεῖν ἐν τῷ ὄρει τῷ ὀστρακώδει ἐν ᾧ αἱ ἄρκοι καὶ ἐν ᾧ αἱ ἀλώπεκες ἐν τῷ Μυρσινῶνι καὶ ἐν Θαλαβιν καὶ ἐβαρύνθη χεὶρ οἴκου Ιωσηφ ἐπὶ τὸν Αμορραῖον καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτοῖς εἰς φόρον
And the Amorrite began to dwell in the rocky mountain, in which were the bears, and in which were the foxes, in the Mursinon and in Thalabin; and the hand of the house of Joseph was made heavy upon the Amorrite, and he became to them for tribute.
36καὶ τὸ ὅριον τοῦ Αμορραίου ἀπὸ τῆς ἀναβάσεως Ακραβιν ἀπὸ τῆς Πέτρας καὶ ἐπάνω
And the border of the Amorite was from the ascent of Akrabin, from the Rock and upward.
