In the twelfth year of the reign of Nabuchodonosor, who reigned over the Assyrians in Nineveh the great city, in the days of Arphaxad, who reigned over the Medes in Ecbatana,

And he built around Ecbatana walls of hewn stones, to a width of three cubits and to a length of six cubits, and he made the height of the wall seventy cubits and its width fifty cubits.

and he set its towers upon its gates, a hundred cubits, and its breadth he founded to sixty cubits

And he made its gates gates rising up to a height of seventy cubits, and its width forty cubits, for the sorties of the power of his mighty men and the formations of his infantry.

And King Nebuchodonosor made war in those days against King Arphaxad in the great plain, that is, the plain in the borders of Ragau

And all those dwelling in the hill country met him, and all those dwelling by the Euphrates and the Tigris and the Hydaspes, and the plains of king Ariokh of the Elamites, and many nations gathered together for battle array of the sons of Cheloud.

And Nabuchodonosor king of the Assyrians sent against all who were dwelling in Persia and against all who were dwelling toward the west, those dwelling in Cilicia and Damascus and Lebanon and Antilibanus and all who were dwelling along the face of the coast.

and those among the nations of Carmel and Gilead and the upper Galilee and the great plain of Esdraelon

and all those in Samaria and its cities and beyond the Jordan as far as Jerusalem and Batane and Chelous and Kadesh and the river of Egypt and Taphnas and Ramesse and all the land of Gesem

as far as one comes up to Tanis and Memphis and all those dwelling in Egypt, as far as one comes upon the borders of Ethiopia

And all the inhabitants of all the land despised the word of Nabuchodonosor king of the Assyrians and did not come together with him for the war, because they did not fear him, but he was before them as one man, and they sent back his messengers empty in the shame of their face.

And Nabuchodonosor was very angry against all this land, and he swore by his throne and his kingdom that he would surely avenge all the borders of Cilicia and Damascus and Syria, to slay with his sword all the inhabitants in the land of Moab and the sons of Ammon and all Judea and all those in Egypt, until he came against the borders of the two seas

And he drew up in battle line with his force against Arphaxad the king in the seventeenth year, and he became strong in his war and turned back all the force of Arphaxad and all his horse and all his chariots

And he took control of his cities and came as far as Ecbatana and seized the towers and plundered its squares, and he put its adornment to shame.

And he took Arphaxad in the mountains of Ragau and speared him with his javelins and destroyed him until that day

And he returned with them, he himself and all his mixed multitude, a very great multitude of men of war, and he was there spending time in ease and feasting, he himself and his force, for one hundred and twenty days.
