And when the tumult of the men around the council had ceased, Holofernes, the chief general of the power of Assur, said to Achior in the presence of all the people of the foreigners and to all the sons of Moab:
And who are you, Achior, and the hired men of Ephraim, that you have prophesied among us just as today, and said that the race of Israel should not make war, because their God will defend them? And who is God except Nebuchadnezzar? He will send out his power and will utterly destroy them from the face of the earth, and their God will not rescue them.
For we will burn them up among them, and their mountains will be drunk with their blood, and their plains will be filled with their dead, and the track of their feet will not stand before us, but they will utterly perish by destruction, says King Nebuchadnezzar, lord of all the earth; for he has said, and the words of his words will not be made void.
But you, Achior, hired man of Ammon, who spoke these words in the day of your injustice, you shall no longer see my face from this day until I take vengeance on the race of those from Egypt
And then the iron of my army will pass through, and the people of my servants through your sides, and you will fall among their wounded ones when I return.
And if indeed you hope in your heart that they will not be taken, let not your face be cast down; I have spoken, and nothing of my words will fall to the ground.
And Holofernes ordered his servants who were standing by in his tent to seize Achior and restore him to Bethulia and hand him over into the hands of the sons of Israel
And his servants seized him and brought him outside the camp into the plain, and they departed from the midst of the plain into the hill country, and they came to the springs that were under Bethulia.
And when the men of the city saw them at the top of the mountain, they took up their weapons and went out of the city to the top of the mountain, and every slinger held their ascent, and they were striking them with stones.
And the sons of Israel, having gone down from their city, rose up against him, and loosing him, led him away to Bethulia and set him over the rulers of their city.
And they summoned all the elders of the city, and every young man of theirs and the women ran together to the assembly, and they set Achior in the midst of all their people, and Uzziah asked him what had happened.
And answering, he reported to them the words of the council of Holofernes and all the words that he spoke among the rulers, sons of Assur, and all that Holofernes boasted against the house of Israel.
Lord, God of heaven, look upon their arrogance and have mercy on the humiliation of our race, and look upon the face of those consecrated to you on this day
And Uzziah took him from the assembly into his house, and made a drinking-feast for the elders, and they called upon the God of Israel for help all that night.
