And he commanded her to be brought in where he laid up his silver things, and he ordered to spread out for her from his delicacies and to drink from his wine.

And Judith said, I will not eat of them, lest it become a stumbling block, but from those who have followed me it will be supplied

And Holofernes said to her, But if the things that are with you should fail, from where shall we bring out for you to give things like them? For there is not with us one of your race.

And Judith said to him, As your soul lives, my lord, that your servant will not consume the things that are with me until the Lord accomplishes by my hand the things that he has planned.

And the servants of Holofernes led her into the tent, and she slept until midnight, and he rose toward the morning watch

And she sent to Holofernes, saying, Let my lord command, please, to allow your servant to go out for prayer.

And Holofernes ordered the bodyguards not to hinder her, and she remained in the camp for three days, and she would go out by night into the valley of Bethulia, and she was bathing in the camp at the spring of the water.

And when she had gone up, she was beseeching the Lord God of Israel to direct her way for the raising up of the sons of his people.

And when she came in, she remained pure in the tent until she brought her food in the evening.

And it came to pass on the fourth day that Holofernes made a drinking feast for his servants alone, and he called no one to the invitation of those in attendance on the necessities.

And he said to Bagoas the eunuch, who was set over all that was his, persuade now by going the Hebrew woman who is with you to come to us and to eat and to drink with us

For it is shameful to our face if we shall let such a woman go without speaking with her, because if we do not win over her, she will mock us.

And Bagoas went out from the presence of Holofernes and came in to her and said, Let not this good maidenslave indeed delay, having come to my lord to be honored in his presence and to drink wine with us for rejoicing, and to become on this day as one daughter of the sons of Assur who stand in the house of Nebuchodonosor.

And Judith said to him, And who am I, that I should oppose my lord? For whatever shall be pleasing in his eyes I will hasten to do, and this shall be a rejoicing for me until the day of my death.

And when she had risen, she adorned herself with the garment and with all the women’s adornment, and her maid approached and spread before her, opposite Holofernes, on the ground, the skins which she had received from Bagoas for her daily provision, for her to eat while reclining on them

And when Judith entered, she reclined, and the heart of Holofernes was stunned over her, and his soul was shaken, and he was exceedingly eager to have intercourse with her, and he watched for a time to deceive her, from the day when he saw her.

And Holofernes said to her, Drink now and become with us for gladness.

And Judith said, I will surely drink, sir, for my life has been made great in me today beyond all the days of my birth.

And taking, she ate and drank before him what her maid had prepared

And Holofernes was glad because of her and drank very much wine, exceedingly much, as much as he had never drunk on any one day from the day he was born.
