And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your sacrifice, and I will go; if God should appear to me in a meeting, and whatever word he may show me I will report to you. And Balak stood by his sacrifice, and Balaam went to inquire of God, and he went straight on.
And the spirit of God came upon him, and taking up his parable he said, Balak, king of Moab, summoned me from Mesopotamia, from the mountains eastward, saying, Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel for me.
For from the top of the mountains I will see him, and from the hills I will consider him; behold, a people alone shall dwell, and among the nations it shall not be reckoned.
Who has counted accurately the seed of Jacob, and who shall number the multitudes of Israel? Let my soul die among the souls of the righteous, and let my seed be as the seed of these.
And Balak said to him, Come here yet with me to another place from which you will not see him from there, but only some part of him you will see, but you will not see all of him, and curse him for me from there.
And he turned back to him, and behold, he was standing over his burnt offering, and all the rulers of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What has the Lord spoken?
God is not as a man to be thwarted, nor as a son of man to be threatened; he himself having spoken, will he not do it? and having spoken, will he not remain steadfast?
Behold, a people like a young lion shall rise up, and like a lion shall exult; he shall not lie down until he eats prey and drinks the blood of the wounded.
