And it came to pass after the plague that the Lord spoke to Moses and to Eleazar the priest, saying:

Take the sum of the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers’ houses, every one going out to marshal in Israel.

And Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying

from twenty years old and upward, as the Lord commanded Moses, and the sons of Israel who came out of Egypt

Reuben, firstborn of Israel; and the sons of Reuben: Enoch, and the clan of Enoch; to Phallu, the clan of the Phalluites

to Hezron, the clan of the Hezronites; to Carmi, the clan of the Carmites

These are the clans of Reuben, and their census was forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.

And the sons of Pallu: Eliab

And the sons of Eliab: Nemuel and Dathan and Abiram. These are the called of the congregation; these are the ones who rose up against Moses and Aaron in the congregation of Korah, in the uprising of the Lord.

But the sons of Korah did not die.

The sons of Zebulun according to their clans: to Sered, the clan of the Seredites; to Elon, the clan of the Elonites; to Jahleel, the clan of the Jahleelites.

These are the clans of Zebulun according to their registration, sixty thousand and five hundred.

The sons of Gad, according to their clans: to Sapho, the clan of the Saphoites; to Anggi, the clan of the Anggites; to Souni, the clan of the Sounites.

and the name of the daughter of Asher was Sarah

These are the clans of Asher, from their numbering, fifty-three thousand and four hundred.

The sons of Joseph according to their clans: Manasseh and Ephraim

The sons of Manasseh: to Machir the clan of the Machirite, and Machir begot Gilead; to Gilead the clan of the Gileadite.

And these are the sons of Gilead: to Achiezer, the clan of the Achiezerites; to Heleg, the clan of the Helegites.

To Esriel, the clan of the Esrielites; to Shechem, the clan of the Shechemites.

To Shemida: the clan of the Shemidaites; and to Hepher: the clan of the Hepherites.

And to Salpaad son of Opher there were not born to him sons, but daughters; and these are the names of the daughters of Salpaad: Mala and Noua and Egla and Melcha and Thersa

These are the clans of Manasseh from their numbering: fifty-two thousand and seven hundred.

And these are the sons of Ephraim: of Shuthelah, the clan of the Shuthelahites; of Tahan, the clan of the Tahanites.

These are the sons of Sutala, to Eden; the clan of the Edenites.

These are the clans of Ephraim, according to their census, thirty-two thousand and five hundred. These are the clans of the sons of Joseph according to their clans.

The sons of Benjamin, according to their clans: to Bela, the clan of the Belaite; to Ashbel, the clan of the Ashbelite; to Ahiram, the clan of the Ahiramite; to Shephupham, the clan of the Shephuphamite; to Hupham, the clan of the Huphamite.

To Sophan, the family of the Sophanites.

And the sons of Bela: Addar and Noeman; to Addar, the clan of the Addarites; to Noeman, the clan of the Noemanites.

These are the sons of Benjamin according to their clans, from their numbering, forty-five thousand and six hundred.

And the sons of Dan according to their clans: to Sami the clan of the Sami; these are the clans of Dan according to their clans.

All the clans of Sami, by their census, were sixty-four thousand and four hundred.

The sons of Naphtali, according to their clans: to Asiel the clan of the Asielites; to Guni the clan of the Gunites.

To Iezer, the clan of the Iezerites; to Shelem, the clan of the Shelemites.

These are the clans of Naphtali, from their numbering, forty-five thousand and four hundred.

This is the numbering of the sons of Israel: six hundred thousand and one thousand and seven hundred and thirty.

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying

To these the land shall be apportioned as an inheritance according to the number of names

To the more numerous you shall increase the inheritance, and to the less numerous you shall diminish the inheritance of them; to each, as they were numbered, their inheritance shall be given.

The land shall be divided by lot according to names; according to the tribes of their ancestral clans they shall inherit it.

By lot you shall divide their inheritance, between many and few.

And the sons of Levi according to their clans: to Gershon, the clan of the Gershonites; to Kohath, the clan of the Kohathites; to Merari, the clan of the Merarites.

These are the clans of the sons of Levi: the clan of the Libni, the clan of the Hebroni, the clan of the Kore, and the clan of the Musi; and Kohath begot Amram

And the name of his wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, who bore these to Levi in Egypt, and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam their sister.

And there were born to Aaron Nadab and Abihu and Eleazar and Ithamar

And Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai.

And there were from their enrollment twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and upward, for they were not enrolled among the sons of Israel, because no inheritance is given to them among the sons of Israel.

And this was the numbering of Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in Araboth Moab, by the Jordan, opposite Jericho.

And among these there was not a man of those numbered by Moses and Aaron, whom they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.

For the Lord had said to them, By death they shall die in the wilderness; and not one of them was left, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
