Hear, you who rule over multitudes and boast over crowds of nations
ἐδόθη παρὰ κυρίου ἡ κράτησις ὑμῖν καὶ ἡ δυναστεία παρὰ ὑψίστου ὃς ἐξετάσει ὑμῶν τὰ ἔργα καὶ τὰς βουλὰς διερευνήσει
For dominion was given you from the Lord, and sovereignty from the Most High, who will examine your works and will search out your plans.
ὑπηρέται ὄντες τῆς αὐτοῦ βασιλείας οὐκ ἐκρίνατε ὀρθῶς οὐδὲ ἐφυλάξατε νόμον οὐδὲ κατὰ τὴν βουλὴν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπορεύθητε
For being servants of his kingdom, you did not judge rightly, nor did you keep the law, nor did you walk according to the counsel of God.
He will come upon you dreadfully and swiftly, because a sharp judgment comes among those who are in authority.
For the least is pardonable in mercy, but the mighty will be mightily examined.
γὰρ ὑποστελεῖται πρόσωπον ὁ πάντων δεσπότης οὐδὲ ἐντραπήσεται μέγεθος ὅτι μικρὸν καὶ μέγαν αὐτὸς ἐποίησεν ὁμοίως τε προνοεῖ περὶ πάντων
For the Lord of all will not be partial to a face, nor will he be ashamed of greatness, because he himself made both small and great, and alike does he care for all.
But for the powerful a strong inquiry comes upon them
Therefore my words are for you, O tyrants, that you may learn wisdom and not fall aside
For those who have kept holy things in holiness will be made holy, and those who have been taught them will find a defense.
Therefore desire my words; long for them, and you will be instructed.
καὶ ἀμάραντός ἐστιν ἡ σοφία καὶ εὐχερῶς θεωρεῖται ὑπὸ τῶν ἀγαπώντων αὐτὴν καὶ εὑρίσκεται ὑπὸ τῶν ζητούντων αὐτήν
Radiant and unfading is wisdom, and it is easily beheld by those who love her, and it is found by those who seek her
It anticipates those who desire to be made known beforehand
He who rises early for her will not grow weary, for he will find her sitting beside his gates.
For to reflect on her is perfection of prudence, and he who stays awake on account of her will quickly be free from care
τοὺς ἀξίους αὐτῆς αὐτὴ περιέρχεται ζητοῦσα καὶ ἐν ταῖς τρίβοις φαντάζεται αὐτοῖς εὐμενῶς καὶ ἐν πάσῃ ἐπινοίᾳ ὑπαντᾷ αὐτοῖς
For she herself goes around seeking those worthy of her, and in the paths she appears to them kindly, and in every thought she meets them.
For the beginning of her is the most truthful desire for discipline, and concern for discipline is love.
and love is the keeping of her laws, and attention to laws is the assurance of incorruptibility
and incorruption makes to be near to God
Therefore the desire for wisdom leads up to a kingdom.
If therefore you delight in thrones and scepters, you tyrants of peoples, honor wisdom, that you may reign forever
δέ ἐστιν σοφία καὶ πῶς ἐγένετο ἀπαγγελῶ καὶ οὐκ ἀποκρύψω ὑμῖν μυστήρια ἀλλὰ ἀπ᾿ ἀρχῆς γενέσεως ἐξιχνιάσω καὶ θήσω εἰς τὸ ἐμφανὲς τὴν γνῶσιν αὐτῆς καὶ οὐ μὴ παροδεύσω τὴν ἀλήθειαν
And what is wisdom and how she came to be I will declare, and I will not hide mysteries from you, but from the beginning of her origin I will trace out and will set in clear view her knowledge, and I will by no means pass by the truth
Nor indeed will I accompany consuming envy, because this will not share in wisdom.
But a multitude of wise men is the salvation of the world, and a prudent king is the stability of a people.
Therefore be instructed by my words, and you will be benefited.
