The word of the Lord that came to Sophonias son of Chousi, son of Godoliou, son of Amariou, son of Ezekiou, in the days of Josias son of Amon, king of Judah

Let all things fail, let all perish from the face of the earth, says the Lord.

Let man fail, and beasts; let the birds of heaven fail, and the fish of the sea; and I will remove the men from the face of the earth, says the Lord

And I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all those who dwell in Jerusalem, and I will remove from this place the names of Baal and the names of the priests

and those who worship on the roofs the host of heaven, and those who swear by the Lord, and those who swear by their king

and those turning aside from the Lord, and those who have not sought the Lord, and those who do not hold fast to the Lord

Be in awe before the face of the Lord God, because the day of the Lord is near, because the Lord has prepared his sacrifice; he has sanctified his called ones.

And it shall be in the day of the Lord’s sacrifice, and I will punish upon the rulers and upon the house of the king and upon all those clothed in foreign garments

And I will punish on all openly, on the thresholds, in that day, those who fill the house of the Lord their God with impieties and deceit

And it shall be in that day, says the Lord, a voice of outcry from the Fish Gate, and a wailing from the Second Quarter, and a great breaking from the hills.

Wail, you who dwell in the broken place, because all the people of Canaan have become like it; all those lifted up with silver have been destroyed.

And it shall be in that day, I will search out Jerusalem with a lamp, and I will punish the men who are despising over their guard posts, those saying in their hearts, The Lord will surely not do good, nor will he surely do evil.

And their power shall become for plunder, and their houses for destruction, and they shall build houses and shall not dwell in them, and they shall plant vineyards and shall not drink their wine

For near is the day of the Lord, the great one; near and very swift. The sound of the day of the Lord is bitter and hard; it has been arranged, mighty.

A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and of necessity, a day of ruin and destruction, a day of darkness and of gloom, a day of cloud and of mist

A day of trumpet and of outcry against the fortified cities and against the high corners

And I will distress the men, and they shall walk like blind men, because they sinned against the Lord; and he will pour out their blood like dust, and their flesh like dung

And their silver and their gold shall by no means be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath, and in the fire of his jealousy all the earth shall be consumed, because he will make a full end and a haste upon all who dwell in the earth
