For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that all our ancestors were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

And all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

And all ate the same spiritual food

And all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from a spiritual rock that followed, and the rock was the Christ.

But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were laid low in the wilderness.

Now these things became examples for us, so that we would not be desirers of evil things, as those also desired.

Do not become idolaters, as some of them did; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and they rose up to play.

Let us not commit sexual immorality as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.

Let us not test the Messiah, as some of them tested him and were destroyed by the serpents.

Do not grumble, as some of them grumbled, and they were destroyed by the destroyer.

Now these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our instruction, to whom the ends of the ages have come.

So the one who thinks he stands should be careful not to fall,

No temptation has overtaken you except what is human; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way out to endure it.

Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.

The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of the Messiah? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of the Messiah?

Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.

Consider Israel according to the flesh: are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar?

What then do I say? That an idol is anything, or that what is sacrificed to an idol is anything?

But what they sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to become partners with demons.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than him?

All things are permitted, but not all things are beneficial. All things are permitted, but not all things build up.

Let no one seek their own advantage, but that of the other.

Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without asking questions for the sake of conscience,

For the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness of it.

If anyone of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go, eat whatever is set before you without questioning anything because of conscience.

But if someone says to you, This has been offered to a god, do not eat because of the one who informed and because of conscience.

But I say this concerning conscience, not your own but that of the other person. For why is my freedom judged by another’s conscience?

If I partake by grace, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks?

So then, whether you eat or drink or do anything, do all things for the glory of God.

Be without offense both to Jews and to Greeks and to the church of God,

Just as I also please everyone in everything, not seeking my own benefit but the benefit of many, so that they may be saved.
