εἰς τὸ μὴ ταχέως σαλευθῆναι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τοῦ νοὸς μηδὲ θροεῖσθαι μήτε διὰ πνεύματος μήτε διὰ λόγου μήτε δι' ἐπιστολῆς ὡς δι' ἡμῶν, ὡς ὅτι ἐνέστηκεν ἡ ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου.
so that you may not be quickly shaken from your mind nor be alarmed either by spirit or by word or by letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
μή τις ὑμᾶς ἐξαπατήσῃ κατὰ μηδένα τρόπον· ὅτι ἐὰν μὴ ἔλθῃ ἡ ἀποστασία πρῶτον καὶ ἀποκαλυφθῇ ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας, ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας,
Let no one deceive you in any way, because unless the rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
ὁ ἀντικείμενος καὶ ὑπεραιρόμενος ἐπὶ πάντα λεγόμενον θεὸν ἢ σέβασμα, ὥστε αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν ναὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καθίσαι ἀποδεικνύντα ἑαυτὸν ὅτι ἔστιν θεός.
The one opposing and exalting himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
Do you not remember that while I was still with you I used to say these things to you?
And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed in his own time.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only the one who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
καὶ τότε ἀποκαλυφθήσεται ὁ ἄνομος, ὃν ὁ κύριος Ἰησοῦς ἀνελεῖ τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ καὶ καταργήσει τῇ ἐπιφανείᾳ τῆς παρουσίας αὐτοῦ,
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will destroy with the breath of his mouth and will nullify by the appearance of his presence,
whose presence is according to the power of Satan in every power and sign and lying wonder
καὶ ἐν πάσῃ ἀπάτῃ ἀδικίας τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις, ἀνθ' ὧν τὴν ἀγάπην τῆς ἀληθείας οὐκ ἐδέξαντο εἰς τὸ σωθῆναι αὐτούς·
and in all deception of unrighteousness toward those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth to be saved;
And for this reason God sends upon them a working of deception to believe the lie,
so that all who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness may be judged.
Ἡμεῖς δὲ ὀφείλομεν εὐχαριστεῖν τῷ θεῷ πάντοτε περὶ ὑμῶν, ἀδελφοὶ ἠγαπημένοι ὑπὸ κυρίου, ὅτι εἵλατο ὑμᾶς ὁ θεὸς ἀπαρχὴν εἰς σωτηρίαν ἐν ἁγιασμῷ πνεύματος καὶ πίστει ἀληθείας,
But we are obligated to always give thanks to God concerning you, beloved brothers, because God chose you as a firstfruits for salvation in sanctification of spirit and faith of truth,
to which he called you through our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
ἄρα οὖν, ἀδελφοί, στήκετε, καὶ κρατεῖτε τὰς παραδόσεις ἃς ἐδιδάχθητε εἴτε διὰ λόγου εἴτε δι' ἐπιστολῆς ἡμῶν.
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, whether by word or by our letter.
Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς καὶ θεὸς ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν, ὁ ἀγαπήσας ἡμᾶς καὶ δοὺς παράκλησιν αἰωνίαν καὶ ἐλπίδα ἀγαθὴν ἐν χάριτι,
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal encouragement and a good hope through grace,
to encourage your hearts and to strengthen you in every good work and word.
