Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.
For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified to your truth, just as you walk in truth.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you work for the brothers and also for strangers,
They have testified to your love before the church, whom you will do well to send on their way in a manner worthy of God.
For they went out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
Therefore we owe it to welcome such people, so that we may become coworkers with the truth.
I wrote something to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept us.
διὰ τοῦτο, ἐὰν ἔλθω, ὑπομνήσω αὐτοῦ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ποιεῖ, λόγοις πονηροῖς φλυαρῶν ἡμᾶς, καὶ μὴ ἀρκούμενος ἐπὶ τούτοις οὔτε αὐτὸς ἐπιδέχεται τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τοὺς βουλομένους κωλύει καὶ ἐκ τῆς ἐκκλησίας ἐκβάλλει.
Therefore, if I come, I will remind him of the works he does, speaking wicked words against us, and not being satisfied with these things, he neither welcomes the brothers himself nor allows those who want to, and he even expels them from the church.
Ἀγαπητέ, μὴ μιμοῦ τὸ κακὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ ἀγαθόν. ὁ ἀγαθοποιῶν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν· ὁ κακοποιῶν οὐχ ἑώρακεν τὸν θεόν.
Beloved, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. The one who does good is from God; the one who does evil has not seen God.
Δημητρίῳ μεμαρτύρηται ὑπὸ πάντων καὶ ὑπὸ αὐτῆς τῆς ἀληθείας· καὶ ἡμεῖς δὲ μαρτυροῦμεν, καὶ οἶδας ὅτι ἡ μαρτυρία ἡμῶν ἀληθής ἐστιν.
Demetrius has been testified to by all, and by the truth itself; and we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
I had many things to write to you, but I do not want to write to you with ink and pen.
But I hope to see you soon, and we will speak face to face.
