But Saul was consenting to his death. On that day a great persecution arose against the church in Jerusalem; and all were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

But devout men carried Stephen away and made great lamentation over him.

But Saul was ravaging the church, entering house after house, dragging off men and women and delivering them to prison.

Therefore, those who were scattered went about preaching the word.

But Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Messiah.

The crowds paid close attention to what was said by Philip, all together listening to them and watching the signs he performed.

For many of those having unclean spirits crying out with a loud voice came out, and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.

And there was great joy in that city.

Now there was a man named Simon who had previously lived in the city, practicing magic and astonishing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great,

To whom all gave attention, from the least to the greatest, saying, This is the Power of God called Great.

And they paid attention to him because for a considerable time he had amazed them with his magic.

But when they believed Philip preaching about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

But Simon himself also believed, and having been baptized, he was constantly attending to Philip, and seeing the signs and great powers taking place, he was amazed.

Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,

who, having gone down, prayed for them so that they might receive the Holy Spirit;

For the Spirit had not yet fallen on any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money.

Saying, Give me also this authority so that on whomever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.

But Peter said to him, May your silver perish with you because you thought that the gift of God could be obtained with money.

You have no part or share in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.

Repent therefore from this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.

For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and the bond of injustice.

But Simon answered and said, Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.

Those who had testified and spoken the word of the Lord returned to Jerusalem, and they were evangelizing many villages of the Samaritans.

But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Stand up and go toward the south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza; this is a desert road.

And rising he went, and behold, a man, an Ethiopian eunuch, a servant of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to worship in Jerusalem,

He was returning and sitting on his chariot and was reading the prophet Isaiah.

And the Spirit said to Philip, Come near and join yourself to this chariot.

Philip ran up and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah and said, Do you understand what you are reading?

He said, How can I, unless someone guides me? And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.

The passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: Like a sheep led to the slaughter, and like a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth.

In his humiliation his judgment was taken away; who will declare his generation? Because his life is taken away from the earth.

And the eunuch answered Philip, I ask you, about whom does the prophet say this? About himself or about someone else?

Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus.

As they were going along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, Look, water; what prevents me from being baptized?

And he ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch no longer saw him, for he was going on his way rejoicing.

But Philip was found at Azotus, and as he passed through, he preached the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.
