He also came down to Derbe and to Lystra. And behold, there was a disciple there named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was Greek,

who was well spoken of by the brothers in Lystra and Iconium;

Paul wanted to take him along, and having taken him, he circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for all knew that his father was Greek.

As they traveled through the cities, they delivered to them to observe the decrees that had been decided by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem.

The churches were therefore being strengthened in faith and were increasing in number daily.

They passed through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, being prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the word in Asia,

And having come to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.

And having passed through Mysia, they went down to Troas.

And a vision appeared to Paul during the night: a certain man of Macedonia was standing, urging him and saying, Cross over into Macedonia and help us.

And when he saw the vision, we immediately sought to go out into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.

So having set sail from Troas, we made a direct course to Samothrace, and on the next day to Neapolis,

And from there to Philippi, which is the leading city of the district of Macedonia, a colony. And we stayed in that city for several days.

On the Sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we thought there was a place of prayer, and sitting down we spoke to the women who had gathered there.

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, was listening, and the Lord opened her heart to pay attention to the things spoken by Paul.

And when she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay. And she compelled us.

As we were going to prayer, a certain slave girl having a spirit of Python met us, who provided much work to her masters by fortune-telling.

This one followed Paul and us, crying out and saying, These men are servants of the God Most High, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.

And this he did for many days. But Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned to the spirit and said, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out of her at that hour.

But when her owners saw that the hope of their business had gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,

And having brought them before the commanders, they said, These men, being Jews, are disturbing our city,

And they report customs that it is not lawful for us to accept or to practice, being Romans.

And the crowd rose up against them, and the commanders tore off their clothes and ordered them to be beaten with rods,

After they had inflicted many blows on them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them securely.

Who, having received such an order, put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

Suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken, and immediately all the doors were opened, and the chains of all were unfastened.

But the jailer became awake and seeing the prison doors opened, having drawn his sword, was about to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped.

But Paul shouted with a loud voice, Do no harm to yourself, for we are all here.

Having asked for light, he jumped in and, becoming frightened, fell down before Paul and Silas,

And leading them outside, he said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

They said, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.

And they spoke to him the word of the Lord along with all those in his household.

And taking them at that hour of the night, he washed off their wounds, and he himself and all his household were immediately baptized,

Having brought them into the house, he set a table and rejoiced with his entire household, having believed in God.

When it became day, the commanders sent the officers, saying, Release those men.

The jailer reported these words to Paul, that the commanders had sent to release you; so now, having gone out, depart in peace.

But Paul said to them, You have beaten us publicly without a trial, although we are Roman citizens, and you have put us in prison; and now you are secretly throwing us out? Certainly not, but come yourselves and bring us out.

The jailers reported these words to the commanders, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,

And having come, they appealed to them, and after leading them out, they asked them to leave the city.

And after they came out of the prison, they entered Lydia’s house, and having seen her, they encouraged the brothers and then departed.
