Therefore, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every weight and the easily entangling sin, and run with endurance the race set before us,

Looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider him who endured such opposition from sinners against himself, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.

You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood while struggling against sin,

And you have forgotten the encouragement that addresses you as sons: My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose heart when you are corrected by him.

For the Lord disciplines the one he loves and punishes every son he accepts.

Endure discipline; God treats you as sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline?

But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

Then we had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them; will we not much more submit to the Father of spirits and live?

For they disciplined for a few days according to what seemed good to them, but he for the purpose of sharing in his holiness.

All discipline for the present does not seem to be joy but sorrow, yet later it produces a peaceful fruit of righteousness for those trained by it.

Therefore, strengthen the weak hands and the feeble knees,

And make straight paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be turned aside but rather be healed.

Pursue peace with all, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord,

See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and that no root of bitterness grows up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled,

Let no one be sexually immoral or godless like Esau, who for one meal sold his birthright.

For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, because he found no place for repentance, even though he sought it with tears.

For you have not come to something that can be touched and a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a storm

and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, by which those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them;

For what was being touched was not bearable. Even if a beast touches the mountain, it will be stoned.

And so terrifying was the appearance that Moses said, I am fearful and trembling.

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the assembly

and to the assembly of firstborns registered in the heavens, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the perfected righteous,

and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks better than Abel’s.

See to it that you do not refuse the one speaking. For if those did not escape who refused the one warning on earth, much more will we not escape who turn away from the one warning from heaven.

Whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven.

But this once more indicates a removal of what is shaken, as of created things, so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us have grace, through which we worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,

For our God is a consuming fire.
