And the Pharisees and Sadducees came to him, testing, and asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

But he answered them, You say, When evening comes, there will be a calm, for the sky is red.

And in the morning, It is stormy today, for the sky is red and oppressive. You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you are not able to interpret the signs of the times.

A wicked and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. And leaving them, he went away.

And when the disciples came to the other side, they forgot to take bread.

But Jesus said to them, Watch and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

But they were reasoning among themselves, saying, Because we did not take bread.

But Jesus, knowing, said, Why do you reason among yourselves, you of little faith, because you did not take bread?

Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up?

Did you not take the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many baskets of fragments?

How do you not understand that I did not speak to you about bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Then they understood that he did not say to beware of the yeast of bread but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do people say that the Son of Man is?

They said, Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.

He says to them, But who do you say that I am?

Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

And Jesus answered him, You are blessed, Simon Bar-Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in the heavens.

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever you bind on the earth will have been bound in the heavens, and whatever you loose on the earth will have been loosed in the heavens.

Then he commanded the disciples not to tell anyone that he is the Christ.

From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, Be merciful to yourself, Lord; this shall never happen to you.

But he turned and said to Peter, Go behind me, Satan; you are a stumbling block to me, because you do not think about the things of God but the things of humans.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

For whoever wants to save their soul will lose it, but whoever loses their soul for my sake will find it.

For what will a person gain if they gain the whole world but lose their soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for their soul?

For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will repay each according to his deed.

Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.
