Romans 15 — SBL Greek New Testament

Ὀφείλομεν δὲ ἡμεῖς οἱ δυνατοὶ τὰ ἀσθενήματα τῶν ἀδυνάτων βαστάζειν, καὶ μὴ ἑαυτοῖς ἀρέσκειν.

But we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the weak and not please ourselves.

ἕκαστος ἡμῶν τῷ πλησίον ἀρεσκέτω εἰς τὸ ἀγαθὸν πρὸς οἰκοδομήν·

Each of us should please our neighbor for good, to build up.

καὶ γὰρ ὁ Χριστὸς οὐχ ἑαυτῷ ἤρεσεν· ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται· Οἱ ὀνειδισμοὶ τῶν ὀνειδιζόντων σε ἐπέπεσαν ἐπ' ἐμέ.

For even the Christ did not please himself, but as it is written: The insults of those who insult you fell on me.

For whatever was written beforehand was written for our instruction, so that through the endurance and encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

ὁ δὲ θεὸς τῆς ὑπομονῆς καὶ τῆς παρακλήσεως δῴη ὑμῖν τὸ αὐτὸ φρονεῖν ἐν ἀλλήλοις κατὰ Χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν,

Now may the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think the same among yourselves according to Christ Jesus,

ἵνα ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐν ἑνὶ στόματι δοξάζητε τὸν θεὸν καὶ πατέρα τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

so that with one mind you may glorify God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with one mouth.

Διὸ προσλαμβάνεσθε ἀλλήλους, καθὼς καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς προσελάβετο ὑμᾶς, εἰς δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ.

Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted you, to the glory of God.

λέγω γὰρ Χριστὸν διάκονον γεγενῆσθαι περιτομῆς ὑπὲρ ἀληθείας θεοῦ, εἰς τὸ βεβαιῶσαι τὰς ἐπαγγελίας τῶν πατέρων,

For I say that Christ became a servant of the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers,

But that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy, as it is written, Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.

καὶ πάλιν λέγει· Εὐφράνθητε, ἔθνη, μετὰ τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ.

And again he says, Rejoice, nations, with his people.

καὶ πάλιν· Αἰνεῖτε, πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, τὸν κύριον, καὶ ἐπαινεσάτωσαν αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ λαοί.

And again, Praise the Lord, all you nations, and let all the peoples praise him.

12

καὶ πάλιν Ἠσαΐας λέγει· Ἔσται ἡ ῥίζα τοῦ Ἰεσσαί, καὶ ὁ ἀνιστάμενος ἄρχειν ἐθνῶν· ἐπ' αὐτῷ ἔθνη ἐλπιοῦσιν.

And again Isaiah says, The root of Jesse will stand as a ruler over the nations; on him the nations will hope.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

14

But I am convinced, my brothers, even I myself concerning you, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

τολμηρότερον δὲ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν ἀπὸ μέρους, ὡς ἐπαναμιμνῄσκων ὑμᾶς, διὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσάν μοι ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ

But I have written to you more boldly on some points, as a reminder to you, because of the grace given to me by God

To be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, serving as a priest of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

17

ἔχω οὖν τὴν καύχησιν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τὰ πρὸς τὸν θεόν·

Therefore I have the boasting in Christ Jesus concerning the things that relate to God.

18

οὐ γὰρ τολμήσω τι λαλεῖν ὧν οὐ κατειργάσατο Χριστὸς δι' ἐμοῦ εἰς ὑπακοὴν ἐθνῶν, λόγῳ καὶ ἔργῳ,

For I will not dare to speak of anything that Christ has not accomplished through me for the obedience of the nations, by word and deed,

by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit, so that from Jerusalem and all around as far as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the gospel of the Messiah,

20

οὕτως δὲ φιλοτιμούμενον εὐαγγελίζεσθαι οὐχ ὅπου ὠνομάσθη Χριστός, ἵνα μὴ ἐπ' ἀλλότριον θεμέλιον οἰκοδομῶ,

And so, eager to preach the gospel where Christ was not named, in order not to build on another’s foundation,

ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται· Οἷς οὐκ ἀνηγγέλη περὶ αὐτοῦ ὄψονται, καὶ οἳ οὐκ ἀκηκόασιν συνήσουσιν.

But just as it is written: To those who have not been told about him they will see, and those who have not heard will understand.

Διὸ καὶ ἐνεκοπτόμην τὰ πολλὰ τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς·

Therefore I have often been prevented from coming to you.

23

νυνὶ δὲ μηκέτι τόπον ἔχων ἐν τοῖς κλίμασι τούτοις, ἐπιποθίαν δὲ ἔχων τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ ἱκανῶν ἐτῶν,

But now, no longer having a place in these regions, and having a longing to come to you for many years,

As I go to Spain, for I hope to see you on the way and to be sent on by you there, if first I have been filled in part by you—

25

νυνὶ δὲ πορεύομαι εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ διακονῶν τοῖς ἁγίοις.

But now I am going to Jerusalem serving the saints.

26

εὐδόκησαν γὰρ Μακεδονία καὶ Ἀχαΐα κοινωνίαν τινὰ ποιήσασθαι εἰς τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῶν ἁγίων τῶν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ.

For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.

For they were pleased, and they are debtors to them; for if the Gentiles shared in their spiritual things, they owe it to serve them also in fleshly things.

28

τοῦτο οὖν ἐπιτελέσας, καὶ σφραγισάμενος αὐτοῖς τὸν καρπὸν τοῦτον, ἀπελεύσομαι δι' ὑμῶν εἰς Σπανίαν·

Therefore, having completed this and having sealed this fruit for them, I will go through you to Spain.

οἶδα δὲ ὅτι ἐρχόμενος πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν πληρώματι εὐλογίας Χριστοῦ ἐλεύσομαι.

But I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.

30

I appeal to you, brothers, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to struggle together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf,

31

ἵνα ῥυσθῶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀπειθούντων ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ καὶ ἡ διακονία μου ἡ εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ εὐπρόσδεκτος τοῖς ἁγίοις γένηται,

so that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea and that my service for Jerusalem may become acceptable to the saints,

ἵνα ἐν χαρᾷ ἐλθὼν πρὸς ὑμᾶς διὰ θελήματος θεοῦ συναναπαύσωμαι ὑμῖν.

so that, coming to you in joy by the will of God, I may find rest with you.

33

ὁ δὲ θεὸς τῆς εἰρήνης μετὰ πάντων ὑμῶν· ἀμήν.

Now the God of peace be with all of you. Amen.
