1After these things, the chiefs of the houses of the families were chosen to go up according to their tribes, and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, and their servants, and their maidservants, and their livestock.
2And Darius sent with them a thousand horsemen, until he should restore them to Jerusalem with peace and with music of drums and pipes.
3and all their brothers were playing, and he made them go up together with those others
4And these are the names of the men who were going up according to their families by their tribes for their division of service.
5the priests, sons of Phinehas son of Aaron: Jeshua son of Josedek son of Saraiah, and Jojakim son of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, from the house of David, from the lineage of Perez, and of the tribe of Judah
6who spoke concerning Darius the king of the Persians wise words, in the second year of his reign, in the month Nisan, the first month
7And these are from Judea, the ones who went up from the captivity of the sojourn, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon.
8And they returned to Jerusalem and the rest of Judea, each to his own city, those who had come with Zerubbabel and Jesus, Nehemiah, Zareu, Reesai, Enenius, Mordecai, Beelsarus, Aspharasus, Boroliu, Roimus, Baana, their leaders.

37and they were not able to declare their ancestral houses and generations, as being of Israel: sons of Dalan, son of Touban, sons of Nekodan, six hundred fifty-two
38And from the priests, those who had been made to have priesthood and were not found: sons of Obbia, sons of Akkos, sons of Ioddus, of the one who took Augia, one of the daughters of Pharzellaios, and he was called by his name.
39And when their genealogy was sought in the register and was not found, they were excluded from the priesthood.
40And Nehemias and Atharias said to them not to partake of the holy things until a high priest should arise, clothed with the disclosure and the truth
41And all were of Israel, from twelve years old and upward, apart from male children and female servants: forty-two thousand three hundred sixty males of these, and female servants seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven; singers and song-singers, two hundred forty-five.

43And from the leaders according to the families, when they came to the temple of God that is in Jerusalem, they vowed to raise up the house on its place according to their power
44and to give into the temple treasury of the works one thousand minas of gold and five thousand minas of silver and one hundred priestly garments
45And the priests and the Levites and those from the people settled in Jerusalem and in the country, both the singers and the gatekeepers and all Israel in their villages.
46And when the seventh month had begun and the sons of Israel were each in their own places, they gathered together with one accord into the broad place of the first gate, that toward the east.
47And Jesus the son of Josedek and his brothers, the priests, and Zorobabel the son of Salathiel and his brothers prepared the altar of the God of Israel
48to offer upon it whole burnt offerings according to the things prescribed in the book of Moses, the man of God
49And there were gathered to them from the other nations of the land, and they established the altar on its place, because they were in enmity with them; and all the nations that were on the earth overpowered them, and they offered sacrifices according to the time and whole burnt offerings to the Lord, the morning and the evening.
50And they kept the feast of Tabernacles as it had been appointed in the law, and sacrifices day by day as was fitting.
51And after these, continual offerings and sacrifices of sabbaths and new moons and of all consecrated feasts
52And as many as had vowed a vow to God began from the new moon of the seventh month to offer sacrifices to God, and the temple of God had not yet been built.
53And they gave silver to the stonecutters and carpenters, and food and drink and joy to the Sidonians and Tyrians, to bring cedar wood from Lebanon, to convey rafts to the harbor of Joppa, according to the command written to them by Cyrus the king of the Persians.
54And in the second year, having come into the temple of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, Zorobabel the son of Salathiel and Jesus the son of Josedek and their brothers and the priests, the Levites, and all those who had come from the captivity into Jerusalem began.
55And they laid the foundation of the house of God on the new moon of the second month of the second year, when they came into Judea and Jerusalem
56And they appointed the Levites from the age of twenty over the works of the Lord, and Jeshua stood, and the sons and the brothers, and Kadmiel the brother, and the sons of Jeshua the sons of Humadaboun, and the sons of Joda of Iliadoun, with the sons and brothers, all the Levites with one accord, workers, doing the works in the house of God
57And the builders built the temple of the Lord, and the priests stood arrayed with musical instruments and trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, holding the cymbals, praising the Lord and blessing according to David king of Israel.
58And they cried out through hymns, giving thanks to the Lord, because his goodness and his glory are unto the ages, to all Israel.
59And all the people sounded the trumpets and cried out with a loud voice, praising the Lord because of the raising up of the house of the Lord
60And from among the priests, the Levites, and the heads according to their families, the elders who had seen the former house, came to the building of this one with a shout and great weeping
61and many with trumpets and with great joy, with a loud voice
62so that the people could not hear the trumpets because of the weeping of the people, for the crowd was the one blowing the trumpets loudly, so that it was heard from far away
63And the enemies of the tribe of Judah and Benjamin, when they heard, came to learn what was the sound of the trumpets.
64And they recognized that those from the captivity were building the temple to the Lord God of Israel.
65And having come near to Zerubbabel and Jeshua and to the leaders of the fathers’ houses, they say to them, We will build together with you.
66For we likewise hear concerning your Lord, and to him we sacrifice from the days of Asbasares, king of the Assyrians, who brought us over here
67And Zerubbabel and Jesus and the leaders of the families of Israel said to them, It is not for you and for us to build the house for the Lord our God
68For we alone will build for the Lord of Israel, according to what Cyrus the king of the Persians commanded us.
69Now the peoples of the land, pressing upon those in Judea and besieging them, hindered the building.
70And by making plots and popular agitations and gatherings, they hindered the building from being completed all the time of the life of King Cyrus
71And they were hindered from the building for two years until the reign of Darius
