And having lodged there, he tasted no bread nor drank water, mourning over the great lawless deeds of the multitude
And a proclamation came to be in all Judea and Jerusalem to all those from the captivity to be gathered together into Jerusalem
And as many as should not appear within two or three days according to the judgment of the appointed elders, their livestock shall be devoted, and he himself shall be alienated from the multitude of the captivity.
And those from the tribe of Judah and Benjamin were gathered in three days into Jerusalem; this was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month.
And all the multitude sat down in the wide area of the temple, trembling because of the present winter.
And Ezra rose up and said to them, You have acted lawlessly and have taken in foreign women to add sin to Israel
And now give praise and glory to the Lord, the God of our fathers
And do his will, and be separated from the nations of the land and from the foreign women
And the whole multitude shouted and said with a loud voice, Thus as you have said we will do.
but the multitude is much and the hour is wintry, and we are not able to stand in the open, and we did not find, and the work is not for us of one day nor two; for we have sinned more in these things
Let the leaders of the multitude stand, and all those from our settlements who have foreign wives, let them come, having taken time.

And Esdras the priest chose for himself men, leaders of their families, all by name, and they sat on the new moon of the tenth month to examine the matter.

And the priests and the Levites and those from Israel dwelt in Jerusalem and in the country on the first day of the seventh month, and the sons of Israel in their settlements
And all the multitude was gathered together with one accord at the broad place before the east of the temple gate
And they said to Ezra the chief priest and reader to bring the law of Moses, the one delivered by the Lord God of Israel
And Esdras the high priest brought the law to all the multitude, from man to woman, and to all the priests, to hear the law on the new moon of the seventh month.
And he was reading in the broad place before the temple gate from dawn until midday before men and women, and all the multitude gave attention to the law.
And Esdras the priest and reader of the law stood upon the wooden platform that had been made.

And all the multitude answered Amen, and lifting up their hands, they fell upon the ground and worshiped the Lord.

And Attarates said to Esdras the high priest and reader and to the Levites who were teaching the multitude over all
This day is holy to the Lord, and all were weeping at the hearing of the law.
So go, eat rich foods and drink sweet drinks, and send portions to those who have nothing
For the day is holy to the Lord, and do not be grieved, for the Lord will glorify you.
And the Levites commanded all the people, saying, This day is holy; do not be grieved.
