And it came to pass, when Solomon had completed building the house of the Lord and his own house, after twenty years, then King Solomon assembled all the elders of Israel in Sion, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the city of David; this is Sion.

in the month Athanin

And the priests took up the ark

and the tent of the testimony and all the holy utensils that were in the tent of the testimony

And the king and all Israel before the ark were sacrificing sheep and oxen without number

And the priests brought the ark into its place, into the debir of the house, into the holy of holies, under the wings of the cherubim

for the cherubim were spread out with the wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered over the ark and over its holy things from above

And the consecrated things were projecting, and the heads of the consecrated things were seen from the holy place toward the face of the debir, and they were not visible outside.

There was nothing in the ark except two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant, which Moses put there at Horeb, which the Lord made with the sons of Israel when they were going out from the land of Egypt.

And it came to pass, as the priests went out from the holy place, that the cloud filled the house

And the priests were not able to stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house.

And the king turned his face and the king blessed all Israel, and all the assembly of Israel was standing.

And he said, Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel today, who spoke by his mouth concerning David my father, and with his hands has fulfilled, saying

Since the day when I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I did not choose in a city in one tribe of Israel to build a house for my name to be there; but I chose in Jerusalem for my name to be there, and I chose David to be over my people Israel

And it came to be in my father David’s heart to build a house for the name of the Lord God of Israel

And the Lord said to David my father: Because it came upon your heart to build a house for my name, you did well, because it came upon your heart.

Nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but only your son who has gone forth from your loins; he shall build the house for my name

And the Lord has fulfilled his word which he spoke, and I have risen up in place of David my father and have sat on the throne of Israel, just as the Lord spoke, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

And I set there a place for the ark, in which there is there the covenant of the Lord which the Lord made with our fathers, when he brought them out from the land of Egypt.

And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and he spread out his hands to the heaven.

and he said, Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above and on the earth below, keeping covenant and mercy with your servant who walks before you with all his heart

which you kept for your servant David my father, and you spoke with your mouth, and with your hands you fulfilled, as this day is

And now, O Lord, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you spoke to him, saying, A man of yours shall not be removed from before me, sitting on the throne of Israel, except if your sons keep their ways to walk before me, as you have walked before me.

And now, O Lord, the God of Israel, let your word now be confirmed to David my father

For if God will truly dwell with men on the earth, if the heaven and the heaven of heaven will not suffice for you, how much less also this house that I have built for your name?

and may you look upon my supplication, O Lord, the God of Israel, to hear the favor with which your servant is praying before you to you today

that your eyes may be open toward this house day and night, toward the place of which you said, My name shall be there, to hear the prayer which your servant prays toward this place day and night

and you shall hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel, whatever they may pray toward this place, and you shall hear in the place of your dwelling in heaven, and you shall do and you shall be merciful

whatever each man may sin against his neighbor, and if he take up against him an oath of cursing so as to curse him, and he come and make confession before your altar in this house

and you shall hear from heaven and shall do and shall judge your people Israel, to condemn the lawless, to give his way on his head, and to justify the righteous, to give to him according to his righteousness

when your people Israel falls before enemies, because they will sin against you, and they will turn back and will confess to your name and will pray and will make supplication in this house

and you shall hear from heaven and shall be gracious to the sins of your people Israel and you shall turn them back to the land that you gave to their fathers

when the heaven is shut up and there is no rain, because they will sin against you, and they will pray toward this place and will confess your name, and they will turn from their sins, when you humble them

and you will hear from heaven, and you will be merciful to the sins of your servant and of your people Israel, because you will make known to them the good way to walk in it, and you will give rain upon the land that you gave to your people for an inheritance

If there is famine, if there is death, if there is burning, locust, mildew, if there is, and if his enemy afflicts him in one of his cities, any calamity, any affliction,

any prayer, any supplication, if it shall come to be for any man, according as each one knows the affliction of his heart, and he spreads out his hands toward this house

then you shall hear from heaven, from your prepared dwelling place, and you shall be gracious and shall do and give to a man according to his ways, as you may know his heart, because you alone know the heart of all the sons of men

so that they may fear you all the days which they themselves live on the earth which you gave to our fathers

and to the foreigner who is not from your people, this one

and they will come and they will pray toward this place

And you shall hear from heaven, from your prepared dwelling place, and you shall do according to all that the stranger may call on you for, so that all the peoples may know your name and fear you as your people Israel, and may know that your name has been called upon this house that I have built.

For your people shall go out to war against their enemies by the way in which you will turn them, and they shall pray in the name of the Lord, the way of the city which I have chosen in it, and of the house which I have built for your name.

and you will hear from heaven their supplication and their prayer, and you will do justice for them

for they will sin against you, for there is no man who will not sin, and you will bring upon them and you will give them before their enemies, and those who take them captive will take them captive to a far and near land

and they shall turn back their hearts in the land where they were carried there, and they shall turn back and beseech you in the land of their sojourning, saying, We have sinned, we have acted lawlessly, we have done wrong

and they shall turn back to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, where you have carried them over, and they shall pray to you toward their land, which you gave to their fathers, the city which you chose, and the house which I built for your name

and may you hear from the heaven, from your prepared dwelling place

and you will be gracious to their injustices by which they sinned against you and according to all their trespasses by which they trespassed against you, and you will give them into compassion before those who are taking them captive, and they will have compassion on them

for they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt, out of the midst of the iron furnace

And let your eyes and your ears be opened to the supplication of your servant and to the supplication of your people Israel, to hear them in all things in which they might call upon you.

For you separated them for yourself as an inheritance out of all the peoples of the earth, as you spoke by the hand of your servant Moses, in your bringing out our fathers from the land of Egypt, O Lord, O Lord

And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished praying to the Lord all this prayer and this supplication, that he arose from before the face of the altar of the Lord, having knelt on his knees, and his hands spread out toward heaven.

And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying

Blessed be the Lord today, who has given rest to his people Israel according to all that he spoke; not one word has failed from all his good words which he spoke by the hand of Moses his servant.

May the Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers; may he not forsake us nor turn us away.

to incline our hearts toward him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep all his commandments and his ordinances which he commanded our fathers

And let these words, which I have petitioned before the Lord our God, be near to the Lord our God day and night, to do the justice of your servant and the justice of your people Israel, a matter of a day in its day.

so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord, he is God, and there is not yet any other

And let our hearts be complete toward the Lord our God, and to walk in his statutes and to keep his commandments, as on this day.

And the king and all the sons of Israel sacrificed a sacrifice before the Lord

And King Solomon sacrificed the sacrifices of the peace offerings that he sacrificed to the Lord: twenty-two thousand oxen and one hundred twenty thousand sheep; and the king and all the sons of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord.

On that day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was in front of the house of the Lord, because there he made the burnt offering and the sacrifices and the fat pieces of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before the Lord was too small to be able to carry the burnt offering and the sacrifices of the peace offerings.

And Solomon made the feast on that day, and all Israel with him, a great assembly from the entrance of Hamath as far as the river of Egypt, before the Lord our God, in the house which he had built, eating and drinking and rejoicing before the Lord our God seven days.

And on the eighth day he dismissed the people and blessed them, and they went away, each to his tent, rejoicing and with good heart over all the good things that the Lord had done for David his servant and for Israel his people.
