And Ben-hadad gathered all his force and went up and besieged Samaria, and thirty-two kings with him, and every horse and chariot, and they went up and besieged Samaria and fought against it

And he sent to Ahab king of Israel into the city

And he said to him, Thus says the son of Hadad: your silver and your gold are mine, and your women and your children are mine.

And the king of Israel answered and said, As you have spoken, my lord the king, I am yours, and all that is mine.

And the messengers returned and said, Thus says the son of Hadad: I have sent to you, saying, Your silver and your gold and your women and your children you shall give to me.

For at this time tomorrow I will send my servants to you, and they will search your house and the houses of your servants, and it will be that whatever is desirable in their eyes, on whatever they may lay their hands, they will take.

And the king of Israel called all the elders and said, Know now and see that this man seeks mischief, because he has sent to me concerning my wives and concerning my sons and concerning my daughters, my silver and my gold I did not withhold from him.

And the elders and all the people said to him, Do not listen and do not be willing.

And he said to the messengers of Ben-hadad, Say to your lord, all that you sent to your servant at first I will do, but this matter I will not be able to do. And the men departed and brought him back word.

And Ben-Hadad sent back to him, saying, Thus may God do to me and thus may he add, if the dust of Samaria will suffice for all the people, the foot soldiers with me, for the foxes.

And the king of Israel answered and said, Let it suffice; let not the crooked boast as the straight one.

And it came to pass, when he answered him this word, he was drinking, he and all the kings with him, in tents, and he said to his servants, Build a barricade, and they set a barricade against the city

And behold, one prophet came near to the king of Israel and said, Thus says the Lord: If you have seen all this great multitude, behold, I am giving it today into your hands, and you shall know that I am the Lord.

And Ahab said, In what? And he said, Thus says the Lord: In the young men of the rulers of the districts. And Ahab said, Who shall join the battle? And he said, You.

And Ahab mustered the young men of the rulers of the regions, and they were two hundred and thirty; and after these things he mustered all the people, every son of power, sixty thousand

And he went out at midday, and Ben-hadad drinking, being drunk, in Succoth, he himself and the kings, thirty-two kings, allies with him.

And the servants of the rulers of the districts came out first, and they send and report to the king of Syria, saying, Men have come out from Samaria.

And he said to them, If these go out in peace, seize them alive; and if for war, seize them alive.

and let not the youths of the rulers of the districts go out from the city, and the force after them

Each one struck his man, and each one struck his man a second time, and Syria fled, and Israel pursued them, and Ben-hadad king of Syria escaped on horseback, a horseman.

And the king of Israel went out and took all the horses and the chariots and struck a great blow in Syria

And the prophet came near to the king of Israel and said, Strengthen yourself and know and see what you will do, because at the turning of the year the son of Hadad, king of Syria, is coming up against you.

And the servants of the king of Syria said, The God of the mountains is the God of Israel and not the God of the valleys; therefore he strengthened us over them. But if we should fight against them straight on, surely we shall not prevail over them.

And do this thing: remove the kings, each to his place, and put satraps in their place instead.

And we will exchange for you power according to the power that has fallen away from you, and horse according to horse, and chariots according to chariots, and we will fight against them straight on, and we will be stronger than them; and he listened to their voice and did so

And it came to pass, at the turning of the year, that Ben-hadad mustered Syria and went up to Aphek for war against Israel.

And the sons of Israel were reviewed and came to meet them, and Israel encamped opposite them, like two flocks of goats, and Syria filled the land.

And the man of God approached and said to the king of Israel, Thus says the Lord: Because Syria said, The Lord, the God of Israel, is a God of the mountains and not a God of valleys, therefore I will give this great power into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.

And these encamp opposite those seven days, and it happened on the seventh day, and the battle drew near, and Israel struck Syria, one hundred thousand foot soldiers in one day.

And the survivors fled to Apheka, to the city, and the wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand of the survivors, and Ben-Hadad fled and entered into the house of the bedchamber, into the inner room.

And he said to his servants, I know that the kings of Israel are kings of mercy; let us now put sackcloth on our waists and ropes on our heads and let us go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will give life to our souls.

And they girded sackcloth around their loins and put ropes on their heads and said to the king of Israel, Your servant Ben-hadad says, Let my soul live, please. And he said, Is he still alive? He is my brother.

And the men took it as an omen and hurried and took the word from his mouth and said, Your brother, Ben-hadad. And he said, Go in and take him. And Ben-hadad went out to him, and they brought him up to him on the chariot.

And he said to him, The cities that my father took from your father I will restore to you, and you shall set up places for yourself in Damascus, just as my father set up in Samaria. And I will send you away in a covenant. And he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

And one man from the sons of the prophets said to his neighbor in the word of the Lord, Strike me, please; and the man was not willing to strike him.

And he said to him, Because you did not hear the voice of the Lord, behold, you are running away from me, and a lion will strike you; and he went away from him, and a lion found him and struck him.

And he found another man and said, Strike me, please; and the man struck him, striking and crushed him.

And the prophet went and stood by the king of Israel on the road and bound his eyes with a bandage of cloth

And it came to pass, as the king was passing by, that this one cried out to the king and said, Your servant went out into the army of war, and behold, a man brought to me a man and said to me, Guard this man; and if by escaping he escapes, then your life shall be in place of his life, or you shall pay a talent of silver.

And it happened, your servant looked around here and there, and he was not, and the king of Israel said to him, Behold, you have also slain the ambushes beside me.

And he hurried and removed the mantle from his eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him that he was from the prophets.

And he said to him, Thus says the Lord: because you have let a destructive man go out from your hand, therefore your life shall be in place of his life, and your people in place of his people.

And the king of Israel went away troubled and exhausted, and he comes into Samaria.
