There was a man from Armathaim Ziph, from the mountain of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, son of Ieremeel, son of Eliu, son of Thoke, in Nasib of Ephraim.
And to this man were two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the second was Peninnah, and Peninnah had children, and Hannah had no child.
And the man used to go up from days to days from his city, from Armathaim, to worship and to sacrifice to the Lord God of Sabaoth in Selo, and there Eli and his two sons Ophni and Phinees were priests of the Lord
And to Hannah he gave one portion, because she had no child, except that Elkanah loved Hannah more than this one, and the Lord had closed the things concerning her womb.
because the Lord had not given her a child according to her affliction and according to the sorrow of her affliction, and she was downcast on account of this because the Lord had shut up the things around her womb, so as not to give her a child
And Elkanah her husband said to her, Hannah. And she said to him, Behold, I am here, lord. And he said to her, What is it to you that you weep, and why do you not eat, and why does your heart strike you? Am I not better to you than ten children?
And Anna rose after they had eaten in Shiloh, and stood before the Lord, and Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the posts of the temple of the Lord
And she vowed a vow to the Lord, saying, Adonai, Lord Eloai Sabaoth, if by looking you will look upon the humiliation of your servant and remember me and give to your servant seed of men, then I will give him before you as a gift until the day of his death, and wine and strong drink he shall not drink, and a razor shall not come up upon his head.
And Anna answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a hard day; I have not drunk wine nor strong drink, and I am pouring out my soul before the Lord.
And she said, Your servant has found favor in your eyes. And the woman went on her way and entered into her lodging, and she ate with her husband and drank, and her face was no longer downcast.
And they rise early in the morning and worship the Lord and go on their way, and Elkanah entered into his house at Ramathaim, and he knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her
And she conceived and it came to pass at the time of days and she bore a son and she called his name Samuel and said, Because from the Lord God of Sabaoth I asked him.
And Anna did not go up with him, because she said to her husband, Until the boy goes up, if I wean him, then he will appear before the face of the Lord and will dwell there forever.
And Elkanah her husband said to her, Do what is good in your eyes; sit until you wean him, only may the Lord establish what has gone out from your mouth. And the woman sat and nursed her son until she weaned him.
And she went up with him to Shilom, with a three-year-old bull and with loaves and a skin of fine flour and a bottle of wine, and she entered into the house of the Lord in Shilom, and the child was with them
And they brought him before the Lord, and his father slaughtered the sacrifice that he used to make from days to days to the Lord, and he brought the little child and slaughtered the calf, and Hannah, the mother of the little child, brought him to Eli.
