And the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord before Eli the priest, and the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no vision that was distinctively appearing.
And he ran to Heli and said, Behold, here I am, because you have called me. And he said, I have not called you; turn back, sleep. And he turned back and slept.
And the Lord continued and called, Samuel, Samuel. And he went to Eli a second time and said, Behold, I, because you have called me. And he said, I have not called you; return, sleep.
And the Lord called Samuel a third time; and he arose and went to Eli and said, Behold, I, for you have called me. And Eli understood that the Lord had called the boy.
And he said, Turn back, sleep, child, and it shall be if he calls you, then you shall say, Speak, Lord, because your servant listens. And Samuel went and lay down in his place.
And I told him that I am avenging his house forever because of the iniquities of his sons, because his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not admonish them, and not even so
And Samuel lay down until morning, and he rose early in the morning and opened the doors of the house of the Lord, and Samuel feared to tell Eli the vision.
And he said, What is the word that was spoken to you? Please do not hide from me. Thus may God do to you, and thus may he add, if you hide from me a word from all the words that were spoken to you in your ears.
And the Lord continued to be manifested in Shiloh, because the Lord was revealed to Samuel; and Samuel was trusted to become a prophet to the Lord for all Israel, from the ends of the land and to the ends; and Eli was very old, and his sons were going, they were going, and their way was evil before the Lord.
