And the men of Cariathiarim came and brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord and brought it into the house of Aminadab, that in the hill, and they consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the covenant of the Lord.
And it came to pass, from the day when the ark was in Kiriath-jearim, that the days multiplied and became twenty years, and all the house of Israel looked after the Lord.
And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, saying, If you are turning back to the Lord with all your heart, remove the foreign gods from among you and the groves, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve him alone, and he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.
And they were gathered at Massephath, and they drew water and poured it out before the Lord onto the ground, and they fasted on that day and said, We have sinned before the Lord. And Samuel judged the sons of Israel at Massephath.
And the Philistines heard that all the sons of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah, and the satraps of the Philistines went up against Israel, and the sons of Israel heard and feared before the face of the Philistines
And the sons of Israel said to Samuel, Do not cease from us from crying out to the Lord your God, and he will save us from the hand of the Philistines.
And Samuel took one suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering with all the people to the Lord, and Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord listened to him.
And Samuel was offering up the whole burnt offering, and the foreigners were drawing near for war against Israel, and the Lord thundered with a great voice on that day against the foreigners, and they were thrown into confusion and fell before Israel
And Samuel took one stone and set it between Mizpah and between the old place, and he called its name Ebenezer, stone of the helper, and he said, Thus far the Lord has helped us
And the Lord humbled the Philistines, and they did not continue any more to come into the border of Israel; and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
And the cities that the foreigners had taken from the sons of Israel were restored, and they returned them to Israel, from Ashkelon to Azob; and the border of Israel they took away from the hand of the foreigners. And there was peace between Israel and between the Amorite.
