And Saul chooses for himself three thousand men from the men of Israel, and there were with Saul two thousand in Michmash and in the hill-country of Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin, and the rest of the people he sent away, each to his tent.

And Jonathan struck the Philistine Nasib who was in the hill country, and the Philistines heard it, and Saul blows the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, The slaves have revolted.

And all Israel heard them saying, Saul has struck the foreigner Nasib, and Israel was shamed among the Philistines; and the people cried out after Saul in Gilgal.

And the Philistines gathered for war against Israel, and they went up against Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and a people like the sand that is beside the sea in multitude; and they went up and encamped in Michmash, opposite Beth-horon, toward the south.

And every man of Israel saw that he was in distress, for him not to draw near, and the people hid in the caves and in the folds and in the rocks and in the pits and in the cisterns

And the men crossing over crossed over the Jordan into the land of Gad and Gilead, and Saul was still in Gilgal, and all the people were trembling after him.

And he waited seven days for the testimony, as Samuel said, and Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and his people were scattered from him

And Saul said, Bring near the burnt offering and the peace offerings. And he offered up the burnt offering.

And it came to pass, as he finished offering the burnt offering, that Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to meet him to bless him.

And Samuel said, What have you done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and you did not come as I had appointed in the matter of the days, and the Philistines were gathered at Michmash.

And I said, Now the Philistines will come down to me at Gilgal, and I did not supplicate the face of the Lord, and I restrained myself and offered up the whole burnt offering.

And Samuel said to Saul, You have acted foolishly; because you did not keep my command, which the Lord commanded you, as now the Lord has prepared your kingdom over Israel forever.

And now your kingdom shall not stand, and the Lord will seek for himself a man according to his heart, and the Lord will appoint him as ruler over his people, because you did not keep what the Lord commanded you.

And Samuel arose and departed from Gilgal on his way, and the remnant of the people went up after Saul to meet behind their fighting people, having come from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin; and Saul inspected the people found with him, about six hundred men.

And Saul and Jonathan his son, and the people who were found with them, were sitting in Gibeah of Benjamin and weeping, and the Philistines had encamped in Michmash.

And one raiding party went out from the camp of the Philistines in three divisions; one division was looking toward the road to Ophrah, toward the land of Shual.

and the one head looking toward the road of Beth-horon, and the one head looking toward the road of Gabae, the one overlooking Gai, the Sabean road

And a smith of iron was not found in all the land of Israel, because the foreigners had said, Lest the Hebrews make sword and spear.

And all Israel went down to the land of the Philistines to sharpen each man his plowshare and his axe and each man his mattock and his sickle

And the harvest was ready to reap, and the tools were three shekels for the tooth, and for the axe and for the sickle there was the same sharpening.

And it came to pass in the days of the war at Machmas that no sword and spear was found in the hand of all the people who were with Saul and with Jonathan, and it was found for Saul and for Jonathan his son.

And there went out from the station of the Philistines the one in the מעבר of Machmas.
