And now, behold, the king is passing before you, and I have grown old and shall sit, and my sons, behold, are among you, and I, behold, have gone before you from my youth and until this day
Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken, or whose ass have I taken, or whom have I oppressed among you, or whom have I extorted, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe and a sandal? Testify against me, and I will restore to you.
And they said to Samuel, You have not wronged us, and you have not oppressed us, and you have not crushed us, and you have not taken anything from the hand of anyone.
And Samuel said to the people, The Lord is witness among you, and his anointed is witness today in this day, that you have found nothing in my hand. And they said, Witness.
And now stand still, and I will judge you before the Lord, and I will declare to you all the righteousness of the Lord that he did among you and among your fathers
when Jacob and his sons entered into Egypt, and Egypt humbled them, and our fathers cried out to the Lord, and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and brought our fathers out of Egypt, and settled them in this place
And they forgot the Lord their God, and he gave them into the hands of Sisera, commander-in-chief of Jabin king of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the king of Moab, and they fought against them
And they cried out to the Lord and were saying, We have sinned, because we forsook the Lord and served the Baalim and the groves, and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.
And the Lord sent Jerubbaal and Barak and Jephthah and Samuel, and he delivered you out of the hand of your enemies from all around, and you were dwelling in confidence
And you saw that Nahash king of the sons of Ammon came against you, and you said, No, but rather that a king shall reign over us; and the Lord our God is our king.
If you fear the Lord and serve him and listen to his voice and do not rebel against the mouth of the Lord, and if both you and the king who reigns over you are walking after the Lord,
But if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord and you rebel against the mouth of the Lord, then the hand of the Lord will be against you and against your king
Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call on the Lord, and he will give voices and rain; and know and see that your evil is great, which you have done before the Lord, by asking for yourselves a king.
And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, and we shall surely not die, because we have added to all our sins this evil, by asking for ourselves a king.
And Samuel said to the people, Do not fear; you have done all this evil, only do not turn aside from after the Lord, and serve the Lord with all your heart.
And as for me, far be it from me to sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; and I will serve the Lord and will show you the good and the straight way
