And the women went out and were saying, Saul struck down in his thousands, and David in his tens of thousands.
πονηρὸν ἐφάνη τὸ ῥῆμα ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς Σαουλ περὶ τοῦ λόγου τούτου καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Δαυιδ ἔδωκαν τὰς μυριάδας καὶ ἐμοὶ ἔδωκαν τὰς χιλιάδας
And the matter appeared evil in Saul’s eyes because of this word, and he said to David, They have given the myriads, and to me they have given the thousands.
And Saul was eyeing David from that day and beyond.
And Saul was afraid because of David's presence.
ἀπέστησεν αὐτὸν ἀπ᾿ αὐτοῦ καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτὸν ἑαυτῷ χιλίαρχον καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο καὶ εἰσεπορεύετο ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ λαοῦ
and he removed him from himself and appointed him for himself commander of a thousand, and he went out and came in before the people
And David was in all his ways acting wisely, and the Lord was with him
And Saul saw that he understood exceedingly, and he was cautious because of his presence.
And all Israel and Judah loved David, because he was going out and coming in before the face of the people.
And Michal, the daughter of Saul, loved David, and it was reported to Saul, and it was right in his eyes.
And Saul said, I will give her to him, and she shall be to him for a snare. And the hand of the Philistines was against Saul.
ἐνετείλατο Σαουλ τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ λέγων λαλήσατε ὑμεῖς λάθρᾳ τῷ Δαυιδ λέγοντες ἰδοὺ ὁ βασιλεὺς θέλει ἐν σοί καὶ πάντες οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ ἀγαπῶσίν σε καὶ σὺ ἐπιγάμβρευσον τῷ βασιλεῖ
And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Speak to David secretly, saying, Behold, the king desires you, and all his servants love you; therefore be son-in-law to the king.
ἐλάλησαν οἱ παῖδες Σαουλ εἰς τὰ ὦτα Δαυιδ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ εἰ κοῦφον ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ὑμῶν ἐπιγαμβρεῦσαι βασιλεῖ κἀγὼ ἀνὴρ ταπεινὸς καὶ οὐχὶ ἔνδοξος
And the servants of Saul spoke these words in the ears of David, and David said, Is it a light thing in your eyes to become son-in-law to the king? And I am a humble man and not honored.
And the servants of Saul reported to him according to these words which David spoke.
εἶπεν Σαουλ τάδε ἐρεῖτε τῷ Δαυιδ οὐ βούλεται ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν δόματι ἀλλ᾿ ἢ ἐν ἑκατὸν ἀκροβυστίαις ἀλλοφύλων ἐκδικῆσαι εἰς ἐχθροὺς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ Σαουλ ἐλογίσατο αὐτὸν ἐμβαλεῖν εἰς χεῖρας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων
And Saul said, Thus you shall say to David, The king does not wish a bride-price, except in one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king’s enemies. And Saul thought to throw him into the hands of the Philistines.
ἀπαγγέλλουσιν οἱ παῖδες Σαουλ τῷ Δαυιδ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα καὶ εὐθύνθη ὁ λόγος ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς Δαυιδ ἐπιγαμβρεῦσαι τῷ βασιλεῖ
And Saul’s servants reported these words to David, and the matter was right in David’s eyes to become the king’s son-in-law.
ἀνέστη Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπορεύθη αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπάταξεν ἐν τοῖς ἀλλοφύλοις ἑκατὸν ἄνδρας καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν τὰς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτῶν τῷ βασιλεῖ καὶ ἐπιγαμβρεύεται τῷ βασιλεῖ καὶ δίδωσιν αὐτῷ τὴν Μελχολ θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ αὐτῷ εἰς γυναῖκα
And David arose and went, he and his men, and he struck among the Philistines a hundred men, and he brought up their foreskins to the king, and the king made him his son-in-law, and gave him Michal his daughter, for a wife.
And Saul saw that the Lord was with David, and all Israel loved him.
And Saul was still more afraid of David.
