And David fled from Naioth in Ramah and comes before Jonathan and said, What have I done and what is my wrongdoing and what have I sinned before your father, that he seeks my life?

And Jonathan said to him, By no means; you shall not die. Behold, my father will not do anything great or small, and he will not uncover this ear of mine; and why? Because my father would hide this matter from me? This is not so.

And David answered Jonathan and said, Knowing, your father knows that I have found favor in your eyes, and he said, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he should certainly not want it; but as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, for there is but a step between me and death.

And Jonathan said to David, What does your soul desire, and what shall I do for you?

And David said to Jonathan, Behold now, tomorrow is new moon, and I, sitting, shall not sit with the king to eat, and you shall send me away, and I shall hide in the field until evening.

If your father should surely inquire after me, then you shall say, Asking he has asked permission of me, David, to run to Bethlehem his city, because there is a sacrifice of the days there for his whole tribe.

If he should say thus, It is well, peace to your servant; and if he should answer you harshly, know that the evil has been completed from him.

And you shall do mercy with your servant, because you brought your servant into a covenant of the Lord with yourself; and if there is iniquity in your servant, kill me yourself, and why thus do you bring me to your father?

And Jonathan said, By no means to you, because if I ever by knowing know that evil has been completed from my father to come upon you, and if not, into your cities I will report to you.

And David said to Jonathan, Who will tell me if your father answers harshly?

And Jonathan said to David, Go and remain in the field, and both of us will go out into the field.

And Jonathan said to David, The Lord the God of Israel knows that I will question my father, about this time tomorrow, and behold, if it is good concerning David, then I will not send to you into the field.

Thus may God do to Jonathan and thus may he add, if I do not bring the evils upon you and uncover your ear and send you away, and you shall go in peace; and the Lord shall be with you as he was with my father.

And indeed, while I am still alive, you shall also do mercy with me; and if I should die by death,

You shall not remove your mercy from my house forever, and if not when the Lord removes the enemies of David, each one from before the face of the earth

so that the name of Jonathan may be cut off from the house of David, and the Lord may seek out the enemies of David

And Jonathan added yet to swear to David, because he loved the soul of the one loving him.

And Jonathan said, Tomorrow is new moon, and you will be missed, because your seat will be missing.

and you shall do it three times, and you shall visit, and you shall come to your place where you were hidden on the day of work, and you shall sit beside that ergab there

and I will shoot three times at the little stones, sending toward the target area

And behold, I will send the boy, saying, Come, find me the arrow; if I say to the boy, Here is the arrow from you and here, take it, come, because there is peace for you and there is no matter; the Lord lives.

If I should say this to the boy, Here the arrow is beyond you, go, because the Lord has sent you away.

And the word that we spoke, I and you, behold, the Lord is witness between me and you forever

And David hid in the field, and the month arrives, and the king comes to the table to eat

And the king sat upon his seat, as once and once upon the seat by the wall; and Jonathan went before, and Abner sat by the side of Saul, and David’s place was empty.

And Saul did not speak anything on that day, because he said, An accident appears; he is not clean, because he has not been cleansed.

And it came to pass on the next day of the month, the second day, that the place of David was noticed, and Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why is it that the son of Jesse has not come, both yesterday and today, to the table?

And Jonathan answered Saul and said to him, David has asked leave from me until to go to Bethlehem, his city.

And he said, Send me away, please, because there is a sacrifice of the tribe for us in the city, and my brothers have given command to me; and now, if I have found favor in your eyes, I shall surely be preserved alive and shall see my brothers. Because of this he has not come to the king’s table.

And Saul was angered with anger against Jonathan exceedingly, and he said to him, Son of one who runs away, for do I not know that you are a partner with the son of Jesse, to your shame and to the shame of the uncovering of your mother?

For as long as all the days that the son of Jesse lives on the earth, your kingdom will not be prepared. Now therefore, send and take the young man, for this one is a son of death.

And Jonathan answered Saul, Why should he die? What has he done?

And Saul lifted the spear against Jonathan to kill him, and Jonathan knew that this evil thing from his father had been completed, to kill David.

And Ionathan sprang up from the table in anger of fury, and he did not eat bread on the second day of the month, because he was grieved for David, because his father had insulted him.

And it came to pass in the morning that Jonathan went out into the field, as he had appointed at the testimony with David, and a little boy with him

And he said to the young boy, Run, find me the arrows with which I shoot; and the young boy ran, and he himself shot the arrow, and he passed it beyond.

And the boy came as far as the place of the cast, where Jonathan had shot, and Jonathan cried out behind the young man and said, Is not the shot there beyond you?

And Jonathan cried out after his young lad, saying, Make haste, hurry, and do not stand still. And the young lad of Jonathan gathered up the sticks to his lord.

And the boy knew nothing, except Jonathan and David knew the matter.

And Jonathan gave his weapons to his young boy and said to his young boy, Go, enter into the city.

And as the little boy entered, David rose from the place and fell upon his face and bowed down to him three times, and each kissed his neighbor, and each wept with his neighbor until a great completion.

And Jonathan said, Go in peace, and as we both have sworn by the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord shall be witness between me and you and between my seed and between your seed forever.
