And it happened, when David and his men had entered into Ziklag on the third day, that Amalek fell upon the south and upon Ziklag, and struck Ziklag and burned it with fire.

and the women and all that was in it, from small to great, they did not put to death a man and a woman, but they took captive and went on their way

And David and his men came into the city, and behold, it had been burned with fire, and their wives and their sons and their daughters had been taken captive.

And David and his men lifted up their voice and wept until there was no longer strength in them to weep.

And both the women of David had been taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

And David was greatly distressed, because the people said to stone him, because the soul of all the people was bitter, each for his sons and for his daughters; and David was strengthened in the Lord his God.

And David said to Abiathar the priest, son of Ahimelech, Bring near the ephod.

And David inquired by the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And he said to him, Pursue, for surely overtaking you shall overtake, and recovering you shall recover.

And David went, he himself and the six hundred men with him, and they come as far as the torrent Besor, and the rest stood still

and he pursued with four hundred men, but two hundred men remained behind, who sat beyond the brook of Bosor

And they find an Egyptian man in the field and take him and bring him to David in the field, and they give him bread and he ate, and they gave him water to drink

and they gave him a piece of a cake of pressed figs, and he ate, and his spirit was restored within him, because he had not eaten bread and had not drunk water for three days and three nights

And David said to him, Whose are you, and from where are you? And the Egyptian boy said, I am a servant of an Amalekite man, and my master left me, because I was ill today, three days ago.

And we made a raid on the south of Chelth and on the parts of Judea and on the south of Chelub, and we burned Ziklag with fire.

And David said to him, If you will bring me down to this troop? And he said, Swear now to me by God that you will not put me to death and not hand me over into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.

And he brought him down there, and behold, they were spread out upon the face of all the land, eating and drinking and feasting because of all the great spoils that they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah

And David came upon them and struck them from dawn until evening and the next day, and no man of them escaped, except four hundred young men who had mounted the camels and fled.

And David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and he rescued both his wives.

and there was none missing to them, from little to great, and from the spoils and up to sons and daughters and up to all that they had taken; David brought back all of them

And David took all the flocks and the herds and led them away before the dogs, and to those dogs it was said, These are David’s spoil.

And David came to the two hundred men who had been weakened from going after David, and he had them sit by the Brook Besor; and they went out to meet David and to meet the people with him, and David brought them near to the people, and they asked him about the welfare.

And every evil and wicked man from among the men of war who had gone with David answered and said, Because they did not pursue with us, we will not give them from the spoils which we seized, except that each man shall take away his wife and his children, and let them turn back.

And David said, You shall not do so, after the Lord has given us over and kept us, and the Lord delivered Geddour, the one coming against us, into our hands

And who will listen to your words in this matter, that they are no less than you, because as the share of the one who goes down into battle, so will be the share of the one who stays by the baggage; they shall share alike.

And it came to pass from that day and onward, and it became for a statute and for an ordinance for Israel until this day

And David came to Ziklag, and he sent from the spoils to the elders of Judah and to his neighbors, saying, Behold, from the spoils of the enemies of the Lord

to those in Beth-sour and to those in Ramah of the south and to those in Jeththor

and to those in Aroer and to those in Ammadi and to those in Saphi and to those in Esthie

and to those in Carmel and to those in the cities of Ierameli and to those in the cities of Kenezī

and to those in Jerimut and to those in Beersheba and to those in Noo

and to those in Hebron, and to all the places through which David himself and his men passed there
