And it happened, when Jeroboam son of Nebat heard, and he too was in Egypt, because he had fled from before Solomon the king, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt, that Jeroboam returned from Egypt

And the young men who had been brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus you shall speak to the people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and you, let it be looser from us; thus you shall say, My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father.

And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the younger men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.

And the king did not listen to the people, because there was a turnabout from God, saying, the Lord established his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat

And all Israel, because their king did not listen, and the people answered to the king, saying, What portion do we have in David, and inheritance in the son of Jesse? To your tents, Israel; now see to your house, David. And all Israel went to their tents.

And King Rehoboam sent Adoniram, the one over the tribute, and the sons of Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. And King Rehoboam hurried to go up into the chariot to flee to Jerusalem.
