And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem and gathered Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand young men making war, and he made war against Israel to turn back the kingdom to Rehoboam.

And the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, the man of God, saying

Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon and to all Judah and Benjamin, saying:

Thus says the Lord: You shall not go up, and you shall not fight against your brothers. Return, each one, to his house, for this matter has come from me. And they listened to the word of the Lord and turned back from going against Jeroboam.

And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem and built fortified cities in Judah.

And he built Bethlehem and Etam and Tekoa.

and Beth-zur and Socchoth and Odollam

and Gath and Maresha and Ziph

and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah

and Zorah and Aijalon and Hebron, which is of Judah and Benjamin, walled cities

And he fortified them with walls and gave in them commanders and stores of food, oil, and wine

in every city and in every city shields and spears, and he strengthened them to a very great multitude, and Judah and Benjamin were his

And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel gathered to him from all the borders

For the Levites had left the settlements of their possession and went to Judah, to Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had cast them out, so that they would not minister to the Lord.

And he appointed for himself priests for the high places and for the idols and for the vain things and for the calves that Jeroboam made.

And he cast them out from the tribes of Israel, those who gave their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers.

And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and strengthened Rehoboam the son of Solomon for three years, because he walked in the ways of David and Solomon for three years.

And Rehoboam took for himself as wife Molath, the daughter of Jerimoth son of David, and Abijah, the daughter of Eliab son of Jesse

And she bore him sons: Jeus, and Samarian, and Roollam.

And after these things he took for himself Maacah the daughter of Absalom, and she bore to him Abijah and Iththi and Ziza and Emmoth

And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines, for he had eighteen wives and thirty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

And Rehoboam appointed Abijah, the son of Maacah, as ruler, to be leader among his brothers, because he intended to make him king.

And he grew greater than all his sons in all the borders of Judah and Benjamin and in the fortified cities, and he gave them abundant provisions in great quantity, and he requested a multitude of wives
