And in the thirty-eighth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah so as not to give outgoing and incoming to Asa king of Judah.

And Asa took gold and silver from the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the house of the king and sent to the son of Hadad king of Syria, who was dwelling in Damascus, saying

Make a covenant between me and you and between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent to you gold and silver; come and scatter away from me Baasha king of Israel, and let him depart from me.

And Ben-hadad heard King Asa, and he sent the commanders of his force against the cities of Israel and struck Iyon and Dan and Abel-maim and all the surrounding regions of Naphtali.

And it came to pass when Baasa heard, he left off from no longer building Ramah, and he ceased his work.

And Asa the king took all Judah, and he took the stones of Ramah and its timber, which Baasha had built, and he built with them Geba and Mizpah.

And at that time Hanani the prophet came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, In your trusting in the king of Syria and in not trusting in the Lord your God, therefore the army of Syria has escaped from your hand.

Were not the Ethiopians and Libyans for a great multitude, for horsemen, for a very great number? And in your trusting in the Lord, he gave them into your hands.

For the eyes of the Lord look upon all the earth to strengthen every heart that is full toward him; you have acted ignorantly in this, therefore from now on there will be war with you

And Asa became angry with the prophet and put him into prison, because he was enraged at this matter; and Asa oppressed the people at that time.

And behold, the words of Asa, the first and the last, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

And Asa was diseased in the thirty-ninth year of his reign in his feet, until he was very diseased, and in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.

And Asa slept with his fathers and died in the thirty-ninth year of his reign.

And they buried him in the tomb which he had dug for himself in the city of David, and they laid him on the bed and filled it with spices and with varieties of ointments made by perfumers, and they made for him a very great funeral procession until very much.
