And after these words and this truth Sennacherib king of the Assyrians came and came against Judah and encamped against the fortified cities and said to take them by surprise

And Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib has come, and his face was set to make war against Jerusalem.

And he took counsel with his elders and his mighty men to stop up the waters of the springs that were outside the city, and they strongly supported him.

And he gathered a great people and blocked up the waters of the springs and the river dividing through the city, saying, Lest the king of Assur come and find much water and prevail.

And Hezekiah took courage and built up all the broken-down wall, and towers, and another outer wall, and strengthened the Millo of the city of David, and made many weapons

And he appointed commanders of war over the people, and they were gathered to him in the broad place of the gate of the valley, and he spoke to their heart, saying

Be strong and act like men; do not be terrified before the face of the king of Assyria and before the face of all the nation that is with him, for with us are more than with him

With him are fleshly arms, but with us is the Lord our God, to save us and to fight our battle. And the people took courage because of the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

And after these things Sennacherim king of the Assyrians sent his servants against Jerusalem, and he himself against Lachish, and all his army with him, and he sent to Hezekiah king of Judah and to all Judah that were in Jerusalem, saying,

Thus says Sennacherim king of the Assyrians: In whom do you trust, that you sit in the siege in Jerusalem?

Is not Hezekiah deceiving you to give you over to death and to famine and to thirst, saying, the Lord our God will save us from the hand of the king of Asshur?

Is not this Hezekiah who removed his altars and his high places and said to Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, before this altar you shall worship, and on it you shall burn incense?

Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of all the earth able at all to save their people from my hand?

Who among all the gods of these nations, whom my fathers destroyed, was not able to save their people from my hand, that your God will be able to save you from my hand?

Now let Hezekiah not deceive you, and let him not make you trust in these things, and do not believe him, that the god of every nation and kingdom is not at all able to save his people from my hand and from the hand of my fathers; for your God will not save you from my hand.

And still his servants spoke against the Lord God and against Hezekiah his servant.

And he wrote a letter to reproach the Lord God of Israel and said concerning him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the earth did not deliver their peoples out of my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will by no means deliver his people out of my hand

And he cried out with a great voice in Judean against the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to tear them down, so that they might seize the city beforehand

And he spoke against the God of Jerusalem as also against the gods of the peoples of the earth, the works of men’s hands.

And Hezekiah the king and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet prayed about these things, and they cried out to heaven

And the Lord sent an angel, and he destroyed every mighty warrior and commander and leader in the camp of the king of Assyria, and he returned with shame of face to his land, and he came into the house of his god, and those who had gone out from his own body struck him down with a sword

And the Lord saved Hezekiah and those dwelling in Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all, and he gave them rest all around

And many were bringing gifts to the Lord into Jerusalem and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah, and he was exalted in the eyes of all the nations after these things.

In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death, and he prayed to the Lord, and he heard him, and gave him a sign

But Hezekiah did not repay according to the recompense that was given to him, but his heart was lifted up, and wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem

And Hezekiah was humbled from the height of his heart, he and those who were dwelling in Jerusalem, and the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

And Hezekiah became rich and very exceedingly glorious, and he made for himself treasuries of silver and of gold and of precious stone and for perfumes and for armories and for desirable vessels

and cities for the produce of grain and oil and wine, and stalls for every kind of cattle, and folds for the flocks

and cities which he built for himself and a stock of sheep and oxen in abundance, because the Lord gave him very much property

Hezekiah himself stopped up the outlet of the water of Gihon above and directed it down to the west of the city of David, and Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

And so, with the envoys of the rulers from Babylon who had been sent to him to inquire from him about the sign that had happened on the land, God left him to test him, to know what was in his heart.

And the rest of the words of Hezekiah, and his mercy, behold, they are written in the prophecy of Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David, and all Judah and those who dwelt in Jerusalem gave glory and honor to him at his death, and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
