2 Esdras 10

And as Esdras prayed and as he confessed, weeping and praying before the house of God, a very great assembly was gathered to him out of Israel, men and women and young men, because the people wept, and he lifted up, weeping

And Shechaniah son of Jehiel, from the sons of Elam, answered and said to Esdras, We have acted faithlessly against our God and have taken foreign women from the peoples of the land; and now there is hope for Israel concerning this.

And now let us make a covenant with our God to send away all the women and the things born from them, according as you wish. Rise up and admonish them with the commandments of our God, and let it be according to the law.

And Esdras rose up from before the house of God and went to the chamber of Johanan son of Eliashib, and he went there; he ate no bread and drank no water, because he mourned over the unfaithfulness of the exile.

And everyone who does not come within three days, according to the counsel of the rulers and the elders, all his property shall be devoted to destruction, and he himself shall be separated from the assembly of the exile.

And all the men of Judah and Benjamin were gathered together in Jerusalem within three days; this was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month; and all the people sat in the broad place of the house of God because of the matter and because of the winter.

but the people are many and the season is wintry, and there is no strength to stand outside, and the work is not for one day and not for two, because we have multiplied to do wrong in this matter

Let our rulers now stand with the whole assembly, and all who are in our cities, whoever has taken foreign wives; let them come at appointed times, and with them the elders of city by city and the judges, to turn away the wrath of the anger of our God from us concerning this matter.

And the sons of the captivity did so, and Ezra the priest and the men, heads of families, were appointed by the house, and all by names, because they returned on the first day of the tenth month to inquire into the matter
