and to the poor man nothing except one small ewe lamb, which he had acquired and had kept and had reared, and she grew up with him and with his sons together; from his bread she ate and from his cup she drank and in his bosom she slept, and she was to him like a daughter
And there came a wayfarer to the rich man, and he spared to take from his flocks and from his herds to make for the stranger, the traveler who had come to him; and he took the ewe lamb of the poor man and made it for the man who had come to him.
And Nathan said to David, You are the man who did this. Thus says the Lord the God of Israel: I am the one who anointed you as king over Israel, and I am the one who delivered you from the hand of Saul.
and I gave to you the house of your lord and the women of your lord into your bosom, and I gave to you the house of Israel and Judah; and if it is a little thing, I will add to you according to these things
Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do evil in his eyes? You struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and you took his wife for yourself as a wife, and you killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.
Thus says the Lord: behold, I am raising up evils against you from your house, and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David, and the Lord has passed over your sin; you shall certainly not die.
Nevertheless, because in this matter you have greatly provoked the enemies of the Lord, indeed also your son, who was born to you, shall surely die by death.
And it came to pass on the seventh day that the little child died, and the servants of David were afraid to report to him that the little child had died, because they said, Behold, while the little child was still living we spoke to him, and he did not listen to our voice; and how shall we say to him that the little child has died, and he will do evils?
And David understood that his servants were whispering, and David perceived that the little child was dead; and David said to his servants, Has the little child died? And they said, It has died.
And David arose from the ground and washed himself and anointed himself and changed his clothes, and he entered into the house of God and worshiped him, and he entered into his house and asked for bread to eat, and they set bread before him, and he ate.
And his servants said to him, What is this word that you have done? Because of the child while still living you were fasting and were weeping and were keeping vigil, and when the child died you rose and ate bread and have drunk.
And David said: While the child was still living, I fasted and wept, because I said, Who knows whether the Lord will have mercy on me and the child will live?
And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her, and she conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Solomon, and the Lord loved him
And now gather the rest of the people and encamp against the city and take it beforehand, lest I take the city beforehand and my name be called upon it.
And he took the crown of their king Melchol from off his head, and its weight was a talent of gold and of precious stone, and it was on David’s head, and he brought out very many spoils of the city.
And the people that were in it he brought out and set in the saw and in the iron threshing sledges, and he led them through the brick kiln; and thus he did to all the cities of the sons of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
