And these are the words of the book which Baruch son of Nerias, son of Maasaiah, son of Zedekiah, son of Asadiah, son of Hilkiah, wrote in Babylon

In the fifth year, in the seventh of the month, at the time when the Chaldeans took Jerusalem and burned it with fire

And Baruch read the words of this book in the ears of Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and in the ears of all the people who were coming to the book.

and in the ears of the mighty and sons of the kings and in the ears of the elders and in the ears of all the people, from small to great, of all those dwelling in Babylon by the river Sud,

And they were weeping and fasting and praying before the Lord

And they gathered silver, according as each one was able, his hand.

And they sent to Jerusalem to Joiakim son of Chelkias son of Salom the priest, and to the priests, and to all the people found with him in Jerusalem

when he received the vessels of the house of the Lord, the vessels that had been carried out from the temple, to bring back to the land of Judah, on the tenth of Sivan, the silver vessels which Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah, made

After Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had taken captive Jeconiah and the rulers and the prisoners and the powerful men and the people of the land from Jerusalem and had brought him to Babylon

and they said, Behold, we have sent silver to you, and buy with the silver whole burnt offerings and offerings for sin and incense, and offer on the altar of the Lord our God manna

and pray for the life of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and for the life of Belshazzar his son, so that their days may be as the days of heaven upon the earth

And the Lord will give us strength and will enlighten our eyes, and we shall live under the shadow of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and under the shadow of Baltasar his son, and we shall serve them many days, and we shall find favor before them

and pray concerning us to the Lord our God, because we have sinned against the Lord our God, and the wrath of the Lord and his anger has not turned away from us until this day

And you shall read this book which we sent to you to be proclaimed in the house of the Lord on a day of feast and in days of season

And you shall say to the Lord our God: To us belongs righteousness, but to us shame of face, as this day, to a man of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

and to our kings and to our rulers and to our priests and to our prophets and to our fathers

in which we sinned before the Lord

And we disobeyed him and did not listen to the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in the commandments of the Lord which he gave before our face.

From the day when the Lord brought out our fathers from the land of Egypt and until this day we have been disobedient toward the Lord our God, and we have been scheming so as not to hear his voice

And the evils and the curse have clung to us, which the Lord ordered for Moses his servant on the day when he brought out our fathers from the land of Egypt, to give us a land flowing with milk and honey, as this day is.

And we did not listen to the voice of the Lord our God according to all the words of the prophets whom he sent to us

And each of us went on in the thought of his evil heart to work for other gods, to do the evil things before the eyes of the Lord our God
