And it pleased Darius, and he appointed over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps, for them to be in all his kingdom.
and over them three supervisors, one of whom was Daniel, to give the satraps an account, so that the king might not be troubled
And Daniel was over them, because an extraordinary spirit was in him, and the king appointed him over the whole of his kingdom.
And the prefects and the satraps were seeking to find an occasion against Daniel, and they found no occasion and fault and negligence against him, because he was faithful
And the regular officials said, We shall not find against Daniel any pretext except in the law of his God
Then the prefects and the satraps came before the king and said to him, Darius, O king, live forever.
All the strategoi and satraps, high officials and governors over your kingdom took counsel to establish a royal statute and to strengthen an ordinance, that whoever should ask a petition from any god and man until thirty days, except from you, O king, shall be cast into the pit of the lions.
Now therefore, O king, establish the decree and set forth a writing, so that the decree of the Medes and Persians may not be altered.
Then King Darius ordered that the decree be written.
And Daniel, when he knew that the decree had been enacted, entered into his house, and the windows being open to him in his upper rooms opposite Jerusalem, and three times of the day he was bending on his knees and praying and giving thanks before his God, just as he had been doing before.
Then those men observed and found Daniel making petition and imploring his God
And they came near and say to the king, O king, did you not appoint a decree, that every man who should ask a request from any god and man for thirty days, except from you, O king, shall be cast into the pit of the lions? And the king said, The word is true, and the statute of the Medes and Persians does not pass away.
Then they answered and say before the king, Daniel, one from the sons of the captivity of Judea, has not submitted to your decree concerning the ordinance that you established, and three times a day he asks his requests from his God.
Then the king, when he heard the word, was greatly grieved over it, and concerning Daniel he strove to deliver him, and until evening he was striving to deliver him.
Then those men say to the king, Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that every decree and statute which the king establishes must not be altered
Then the king said, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den, and the king said to Daniel, Your God, whom you serve continually, he himself will rescue you
And they brought a stone and put it upon the mouth of the pit, and the king sealed it with his ring and with the ring of his nobles, so that the matter concerning Daniel might not be changed.
And the king went away to his house and slept without supper, and no food was brought in to him, and sleep departed from him, and God shut the mouths of the lions, and they did not trouble Daniel.
Then the king rose at dawn, at first light, and hurried to the lions’ den.
And as he drew near to the den, he cried out with a strong voice, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the mouths of the lions?
And Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever.
My God sent his angel and shut the mouths of the lions, and they did not harm me, because before him innocence was found in me, and also before you, O king, I did no wrong.
Then the king was greatly pleased with him, and he said to have Daniel brought up out of the pit, and Daniel was brought up out of the pit, and no injury whatever was found in him, because he had trusted in his God.
And the king said, and they brought the men who had slandered Daniel, and they were thrown into the lions’ den, they and their sons and their wives, and they did not reach the floor of the den until the lions overpowered them, and they crushed all their bones.
Then Darius the king wrote to all the peoples, tribes, and languages who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.
From before me a decree was placed, that in every dominion of my kingdom they be trembling and fearing before the face of the God of Daniel, for he himself is the living God and remaining unto the ages, and his kingdom will not be destroyed, and his dominion is until the end
He delivers and rescues and does signs and wonders in heaven and on the earth, who has delivered Daniel from the hand of the lions.
And Daniel prospered in the kingdom of Darius and in the kingdom of Cyrus the Persian.
