Deuteronomy 13
Greek text followed verse by verse by a direct English translation.
Text size:
And if a prophet or one who dreams a dream arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder
and the sign or the wonder comes that he spoke to you, saying, Let us go and let us serve other gods, whom you do not know
You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or of that dreamer of that dream, because the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
After the Lord your God you shall walk, and him you shall fear, and his commandments you shall keep, and his voice you shall hear, and to him you shall cling
And that prophet or that dreamer of the dream shall die, for he spoke to lead you astray from the Lord your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, who redeemed you from the house of slavery, to thrust you out from the way which the Lord your God commanded you to walk in it; and you shall remove the evil from among yourselves.
But if your brother, from your father or from your mother, or your son or your daughter, or the wife in your bosom, or the friend equal to your soul, should entice you secretly, saying, Let us go and let us serve other gods, whom you did not know, you and your fathers,
from the gods of the nations that are around you, those near to you or those far from you, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth
You shall not consent with him, and you shall not listen to him, and your eye shall not pity him, and you shall not desire him, nor shall you by any means cover him.
You shall report, you shall surely report about him; your hands shall be against him first to kill him, and afterward the hands of all the people
And they shall stone him with stones, and he shall die, because he sought to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of a house of slavery.
And all Israel, when they hear, shall be afraid, and they shall no longer add to do according to this evil thing among you.
But if you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God is giving you to dwell there, saying,
Wicked men have gone out from among you and have turned away all the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, whom you did not know.
and you shall inquire and investigate very thoroughly, and behold, the matter has become clearly true, this abomination among you
putting to death you shall put to death all who dwell in that city by the slaughter of the sword; with a ban you shall devote it, and all that is in it
And all its spoils you shall gather into its crossroads, and you shall burn the city with fire and all its spoils, completely, before the Lord your God, and it shall be uninhabited forever; it shall not be rebuilt again.
Nothing from the devoted thing shall cling to your hand, so that the Lord may turn away from the wrath of his anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, in the manner that the Lord swore to your fathers
if you hear the voice of the Lord your God, to keep all his commandments that I command you today, to do what is good and pleasing before the Lord your God
