The Koine Bible

These are the names of the sons of Israel who had entered into Egypt with Jacob their father; each, with his household, they entered.

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah

Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin

Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher

Now Joseph was in Egypt; and all the souls from Jacob were seventy-five.

And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.

And the sons of Israel increased and multiplied and became common, and they were exceedingly strong; and the land multiplied them exceedingly.

And there arose another king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.

And he said to his nation, Behold, the race of the sons of Israel is a great multitude and is mightier than we are.

Come then, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and whenever war should happen to us, these too will be added to our opponents and, having made war against us, they will go out from the land.

And he appointed over them taskmasters over the works in order to afflict them in their works, and they built fortified cities for Pharaoh, both Pithom and Ramesse and On, which is the city of Heliopolis

But according as they humbled them, so much the more they became more numerous and became very, very strong, and the Egyptians were detested because of the sons of Israel

And the Egyptians oppressed the sons of Israel with force

and they made their life bitter in the hard works, with clay and brickmaking and in all the works in the fields, according to all the works in which they enslaved them with violence

And the king of the Egyptians said to the midwives of the Hebrews, to one of them, whose name was Sepphora, and the name of the second Phoua,

And he said, When you midwife the Hebrew women and they are at the point of giving birth, if indeed it is a male, kill it; but if it is a female, preserve it alive.

But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, and they kept the male children alive

And the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, Why is it that you have done this thing, and have kept the male children alive?

And the midwives said to Pharaoh, Not like the women of Egypt are the Hebrew women, for before the midwives come in to them, they have given birth.

And God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and became very strong.

And because the midwives feared God, they made houses for themselves.

And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every male that is born to the Hebrews, you shall throw into the river; and every female you shall keep alive.
