And there was a certain man of the tribe of Levi, who took one of the daughters of Levi, and had her.

And she conceived in the womb and bore a male child; and seeing that it was beautiful, they concealed it three months.

But when they were no longer able to hide it, his mother took for him a basket and smeared it with asphalt and pitch, and put the child into it and placed it in the marsh by the river.

And his sister watched from afar, to learn what would happen to him.

And the daughter of Pharaoh went down to bathe at the river, and her attendants were walking along by the river, and seeing the ark in the marsh, she sent the attendant and took it up.

And when she opened it, she sees a crying little child in the box, and the daughter of Pharaoh had compassion on him, and she said, This is one of the Hebrew children.

And his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, Do you wish that I call for you a nursing woman from among the Hebrews, and she shall nurse the child for you?

And the daughter of Pharaoh said to her, Go. And the girl went and called the mother of the child.

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Keep this child for me and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wage. And the woman took the child and nursed it.

And when the child had grown, she brought him in to the daughter of Pharaoh, and he became to her as a son; and she named his name Moses, saying, I took him up out of the water.

And it came to pass in those many days, that Moses, having become great, went out to his brothers, the sons of Israel; and when he had observed their toil, he sees an Egyptian man striking a certain Hebrew of his brothers, of the sons of Israel.

And having looked around here and there, and seeing no one, he struck the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

And going out on the second day, he sees two Hebrew men fighting, and he says to the one who was doing wrong, Why do you strike your neighbor?

And he said, Who appointed you ruler and judge over us? Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday? And Moses was afraid and said, If thus this matter has become evident,

And Pharaoh heard this matter and sought to kill Moses; but Moses withdrew from before Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian. And when he came into the land of Midian, he sat down by the well.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, shepherding the sheep of their father Jethor; and when they had come, they drew water until they filled the troughs to water the sheep of their father Jethor

And the shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and rescued them, and drew water for them and watered their sheep

And they came to Reuel, their father, and he said to them, Why is it that you have hurried to come today?

And they said, An Egyptian man delivered us from the shepherds, and also drew for us and watered our sheep.

And he said to his daughters, And where is he? And why is it that you have left the man thus? Call him therefore, that he may eat bread.

And Moses was settled with the man, and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses as wife

And the woman having conceived in the womb bore a son, and Moses named his name Gersam, saying, For I am a sojourner in a foreign land

And after those many days the king of Egypt died, and the sons of Israel groaned from the works and cried out, and their cry went up to God from the works.

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob

And God looked upon the sons of Israel, and he was made known to them.
